Okay so it’s the night my application is due and I finally finished my essay. But the word count is 800 words and my essay ended up being 1400 words so I had some serious trimming to do. I’m frantically deleting words until I reach the word count. So I proofread my essay one last time and I turn it in. I read my essay 1 week later and I notice it ends in a cliffhanger. I’m applying to art school so I was gonna end it by saying how art is an influential aspect in my life. But my essay ends like this " I wouldn’t be myself if I couldn’t express myself in the." I was pretty confident that I had a shot of getting accepted but now I’m not so sure. I turned in everything else perfectly however like my common app, my portfolio, my transcript. Can this greatly affect my chances or is this something that can be looked over?
I think you should e-mail the admissions officer that will read your application and attach the completed essay. It is not just a typo but affects the meaning of the essay.
Agree with Octagon in post #1. I suggest a phone call to the admission office as well and hopefully you would get to explain to an AO. If you call, perhaps practice what you might want to say first, succinct with a small dose of remorse (?).
Thank you all for the advice! I was a little apprehensive and wanted to avoid emailing them, however I spoke with my teacher and counselor at school and they suggested the same thing. I just emailed the admission office right now, fingers crossed that this doesn’t result in something bad!
@mpavon have you seen the famous “clam fart” thread on CC? This student got accepted.
