I cannot deal right now. I feel like all the stress and work I put up with to keep all As was for nothing. -_-
Everyone will say you’re being ridiculous, but I understand how you feel. There’s no rational argument that will make it better right now, but you won’t always feel bad about this.
I’ve taught Honors kids for a lot of years.
It’s a good thing when a straight A kid earns a B. It’s hard, at first. So many smart kids define themselves in terms of those grades… “if I’m not a straight A kid, then what and who AM I??” type stuff.
The reality is that you’re so very much more than those straight A’s!! And this is a great time to learn it.
The odds are overwhelming that you won’t always find success in everything you do. Something will be harder than you expect, someone will behave in a manner you don’t expect, something will go wrong. And it will hurt, a lot. But part of being a teenager is learning to deal with what life gives you.
The reality is that no matter how hard you study, how smart and gifted you are, no matter how much your parents love and provide for you, some times life throws you a curve. And you’ve got to learn to deal with it.
This is one tiny little step in that direction. And you’re doing it well-- you’re venting. You’re not (at least as far as I can tell) blaming anyone or crying foul, you’re venting. Wonderful-- that’s healthy.
One 89 will not make any difference. Statistically, it has the same effect on your average as a 90 or a 91. So breathe. And don’t let it be something you dwell on forever. It’s one grade on one test in one course.
Hang in there.
Oh, and chocolate helps
@bjkmom You’re the best. Thanks!
