I’m just as surprised that our valedictorian got rejected from Georgetown and vandy

that is ridiculous with so many other people struggling to get in with significantly higher scores, smells somin fierce

I am suprised that you guys are shocked at this!

Realize this, SAT’s are not an indicator of success by any means and colleges know that.

I personally know dozens of people every single year who get into Harvard, Stanford, and other Ivy League schools with 1700’s. Dozens every single year.

My SAT is 2050, which I consider low for the Ivies and Stanford that I will be applying to, but you guys have to realize that SAT’s don’t mean anything. They are the worst indicators I have seen in my life. Work ethic and how much you want the college is what matters. Colleges realize this and I have a little first-eye view and I can tell you that SAT is extremely overrated, especially on this website. It is ridiculous how many people I see put down people because of SAT’s.

SAT’s don’t mean much at all.

guys, we all know that SATs aren’t all that go into admissions… maybe the kid wrote a dominant essay or something

What…the…eff

Ok we all know SAT’s are not everything, but that seems really low. Especially for a school like JHU which is infamously known as a competitive academically rigorous university. What state are you from? If you’re from the midwest it might make a difference…only maybe. Also the Valedictorian from my HS has a 2290 and got wait-listed from JHU. The admissions committee must have seen something special in that application. Anyway good for them! :)

Hopkins does not weigh test scores very much. I believe it goes something like:

-GPA
-Essays
-EC’s/ test scores

I’m from Connecticut which is a fairly competetive state on the whole academically. The highest SAT in our school this year was like a 1400. 5 People got above a 1300.

This goes to show you that it’s NOT the SAT scores, but the transcript. The student is the Salutatorian, which means that she outperformed all but one student in your high school. I’ll bet that her recommendations were stellar, as was the difficulty of her course load.

Universities want achievers. They don’t want good standardized test takers. Yes, it helps to have good test scores as well, but they don’t mean as much as the achievement itself.

We are talking about out of 2400, right? Or are we talking about out of 1600 and not counting the writing score. If so, why are kids still thinking about it the old way?

I highly doubt that a second ranking student in a class of 400 gets 1080 in SAT. Unless there’s weird circumstance here, I am not sure how one can manage getting all top grades when the reading and math skill appears to be not very good. Test score is not be all end all, and extreme outlier this maybe, still it is very improbable. I think that this is an incorrectly reported story akin to urban legend.

Yes /1600. Its really not that odd at all in my school. I mean our valedictorian only got a 1280 and didn’t break 2000. And she got a 1080, there are no weird circumstances, but I am sure that she studies and works very hard for her grades. She has taken 6/7 AP’s. My best friend who is ranked 5th in the class and has like a 4.16/4.2 only got a 1180. Some people just A.) Don’t study or B.) aren’t that good at taking standardized tests. I’d say with my 1200, I beat out 80-85% of the kids in my class and I’m ranked in the 4th percentile.

Where is the valedictorian going?

Is this in an inner city? Or in an area without decent public education? Top universities consider many factors, including geography, economic advantage/disadvantage, and evidence that the student has exploited all his/her academic opportunities.

Yeah, why would people be shocked at this person supposedly getting in?

Oh, I know. Maybe it’s because according to its CDS Hopkins admitted a grand total of 20 people last year in the 18-23 ACT score range (and none below 18), all of whom were undoubtedly recruited athletes.

The valedictorian is most likely going to BC or Wake. he got rejected by Tufts today.

Again, I have no Idea how she got in, but she did. We are an middle class/upper middle class town with decent public education.

Valedictorian got rejected from tufts today…wow

thats crazy… a girl at my school got rejected with 4 ranking out of 420 and 34/2200 test scores…and phenomenal ec’s…she wasn’t even waitlisted

For JHU on Naviance, we show an acceptance at 1000 and a 3.5, and one at 1200 with a 3.6. I don’t know who they were or if they had hooks, but it happens.

I got rejected

…sorry

obscenity gasp

My friend with a 1600/2310 and a 4.0+ got flat-out rejected. I call BS.
