My friend got into UCSB w/o a Diploma/GED

So there's this HS friend of mine I occasionally get in touch with. Last time I checked with him, he was attending a CCC. Today he texted me saying he got into UCSB this year. He never graduated from HS nor earned a GED according to him. Is this even possible? I went to the same CCC he's attending and they do not require HS Diplomas for admission. Further, UCSB also does not require to see diplomas as long as you got your IGETC completed. So it does logically seem plausible. What do you guys think?

Ccc as in California community college? Maybe he went through the tag program? From what I’ve heard you don’t need a ged/hsd to go to a communtiy college. If you do well enough in a cc and maintain you gpa at a certain level, you can transfer to a college after 2 years( even with no ged/hsd )

Weird…I know CC don’t ask for HS diplomas/GED but UCI has asked to see my High school transcripts. I thought it was weird that they were asking to see my HS transcripts as I graduated a few years ago.

Different cc access students differently. Like the cc I am interested in (sbcc), check your high school score or ged. if you don’t have any, you got to do a placement test and they will place you in extra class with no credit( if you fail the test of course )

But not many cc care about your ged or hsd, I think it’s only in California

Some UC graduation requirements could be satisfied by high school work, such as the American History and Institutions requirement. In some cases, foreign language requirements can be satisfied with a high enough level of foreign language in high school. So the high school records may still be relevant even if you did not graduate from high school.

@Ryan. Yup CA Community College. He didn’t TAG to UCSB. He had like a 3.4 but didn’t bother tagging for w/e reason.

@Gamer. UCI asks for transcripts. SB and LA do not however.
