My friend has a 4.21 UC GPA at a good school, SAT 2s above 750, and a 2330 SAT, but his ECs are quite generic. No sports or leadership. what do you think his chances are at Berkley, UCLA, and SD, and also at Davis and Irvine(safeties).

Major: Engineering.

he is in

10 char

What does 10 char mean?

your replies have to be larger than 10 characters. he's filling up space.

Good chances, but remember he is going to be one of the many with similar stats....I recommend that he does some ECs that will make him stand out.

My stats were much lower, but I had a pretty decent resume of music competitions and orchestras...I'm pretty sure thats what got me into UCSD and UCLA.

Give more information about the "generic" EC.

For now, I'd say slight reach for UCB.
Match for UCLA, safety for the rest.

200 hours of volunteering with key club and some indian community center thing, 2 years in robotics, and tour gude at tech museum. Also 236 PSAT, which might lead to national merit semifinalist.

You're a match for UCLA and maybe a question for Berkeley...just keep in mind, there are a LOT of great applicants that get rejected. Particularly for engineering. But it sounds like your stats are better than avg.

Oh, sorry, your friend is a match for UCLA and a question for Berkeley.

I would say he is in... those EC's are at least something... I had lower scores and not a lot of EC's either (similar to his), and I got into all three.

Those stats are so much better than mine, and I got into both
GPA: 4.25
SAT 1: 1890
SAT 2: 790/710/700

gnrfan:

I like how your "friend" has the same stats that you do.

UCB/UCLA: Match (Engineering)
UCSD: Safe Match (Engineering)
UCI/UCD: Safety

I'd say that your friend is into all of the above except for UC Berkley, just because I know of many really strong applicants who got rejected from there...

People will tell you that there are lots of applicants who have stats as high as your "friend" so you shouldn't assume you'll get in. However, also keep in mind that lots of applicants with comparatively crappy stats get in too (any combination of 2 of the following: lower SAT's, lower GPA, or lame EC's), so don't hold your breath and flip coins when appropriate.

good luck to your "friend"

i would say work on the ec's

i think wat helped me get in was my community involvement

i agree. join crosscountry or something haha

Mmhm I nth the EC comments. I got into all of the above schools with a lower gpa, and muuuch lower SATs. I was floored when I got to school and found out people who I considered 'geniuses' and easy acceptances for those schools did not get in. Only thing that differed between us was more ECs for myself (yet higher grades/sats for them).

Might???? haha. ten points lower and he'd still get semifinalist, lol.

Thanks for the replies. Any more? Bump!

what are you guys talking about...it is not much harder to get into berkeley than ucla, whether it's engineering or not....seriously..lol THIS GUYS IS DEFINITELY IN!! I GUARANTEE IT...THE PEOPLE I HAVE SEEN GET INTO BERKELEY ARE NOT THAT ACCOMPLISHED...you should not worry
