Chances at Ivies,UCs,stanf,Techs...

Hello what do you think are my chances... assuming I have a bunch of clubs and a couple of sports for ECs. I also volunteered a lot in hospitals.

GPA: 3.95
Unweighted: 3.79

SAT:
Math:800
Verbal:580

No Ivies with a 580 on Verbal. Maybe MIT if you are amazing at math.

espiesior:

UCLA/UCB: Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach
UCD/UCSB/UCI: Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safe Match

come on, in-state, and he has a 1380, none of those are reaches. stop the b.s. PPl with 1100s get into UCB and UCLA. only on College Confidential are UCLA and UC Berk made ought to be ivy league schools, come on....

They are not the ivy league, but they reject many 3.9/1400s.

collegekid1988

We can only determine so much. The fact that he has a 580 on Verbal and that he hasn't given us his SAT II Writing Score is cause for concern. Many people get in for many different reasons, without giving us more information, we can only work with what we've got. A 3.95 W (we're not even sure it's UC GPA) is very much below Berkeley's average- 4.24. He could be from a very, very competitive school and his rank could be 10% or something, which is not that great for the top two UC's. From what we can discern, he has no special circumstances to speak of. If he wants a better or more accurate opinion, he should not be so vague about his academic record. In the current situation, it's best that we approach the OP with caution- if we say it's a "match" then he'll wander off somewhere blissfully ignorant because some online kids offered him a positive opinion based solely on his test scores...

Not to mention that at UCs, type of classes matter a great deal. Someone with a 4.0 but few APs and honors has no chance at top tier UCs.
