My friend is an econ major and he is going to have all his classes done before the Spring quarter. Does he still have to take classes in the Spring even if he has done IGETC/Pre-reqs/UCB's Breadth?

I have no idea if he “has to” but unless there was a 4.0 in jeopardy I would take super easy/interesting classes to just to stay in the “school mode”. Keep study habits up and what not.

The UC’s expect you to attend school full time regardless, but if he has a good reason then he doesn’t have to.

I thought the same thing, but he was arguing with me haha

No. They don’t expect you to attend full time if your done. I’ve finished all my requirements last spring, but I applied this year because I couldn’t transfer last time due to financial considerations. Advisors from UCSB and UCLA told me it made no difference whether I was going to school full-time or part-time, taking a gap year, or working. They just want to see that you’re being productive with your time and using it to benefit your education.
e.g. I’m taking math and foreign language because even though I won’t need them for my UD, they’ll be required for graduate school. It’s only 9 units, but it’s in addition to a lot of volunteering and working odd jobs. I’m already over 80 units and there is no point in maintaining full-time standing since I exceeded the unit caps by this point.
If it’s just one semester, esp. the last, tell your friend to get a job or work more hours if he already has one.

No, but they will ask why and he should put a legit excuse. He should definitely get a job or do something with his time.
