My friend loves Christian Siriano...

Okay, my girl friend (not girlfriend, a friend that's a girl) is thinking about a jump to fashion more and more because of shows like Project Runway and America's Next Top Model. She's going to NYU as an English major, but she's caught up in the hype so much that while she won't abandon her studies, a lot of time will be devoted to her imaginary "collection."

While I really believe that she could do it, I think she'll lose focus or would go into that downward spiral because the fashion industry would be so hard to break into.

As of now she's FIERCE and highly motivated, and she could design from now til college, but I'm not 100% on how I should feel. I know this dream (don't wanna call it a fantasy) won't fade for a while though.

i think shows like project runway and america's next top model are dumb...none of them produce real "models" anyways

I do think that Project Runway has a lot more pull and a greater overall effect on pop culture.

While I can't name any of the ANTM winners, I know random middle-aged old guys who know Tim Gunn.

Why should it matter how you feel? Do people have to make their life decisions based on how you feel?

Let's be clear about it.

It was never a "I wanna be a fashion designer" since she was five. It's a "I've watched one season of Runway and since he can do it and he's 21, I can do it."

I refuse to sit back and let her throw away her passion for writing, but I'm confident that this is just a phase.

Way to be a supportive friend...

That's exactly it.

Football players. Some wanna go pro, but a majority don't have what it takes. I'm confident with her abilities, but I'm sayng it'll be hard. Not that I don't want her to take an easy path (English Lit isn't "easy") but to make such a huge jump based on a television show is so irrational.

Should I foster this whim? I'm leaning towards no because I've known her forever and she's a writer more than anything and I don't want her to lose sight of her true passions just because her favorite "character" (I love Christian too, but he's like a cartoon) won.

Or she might go for the combination direction and become a fashion editor for a magazine or something.

it's her life, ultimately. just relax and let go. it's how she wants to live. let her learn.

haha PR and ANTM are my 2 favorite shows ever!!!
