My FSU visit impression

Hello again, I was going to add this post onto my last one, but it got too long.

So we visited FSU for the first time this weekend. We drove up on Thursday and toured the school on Friday, and went to an admissions session as well. Thursday night, we went to check in at the Travelodge, but it was dirty and there was a party going on a few doors down from us. My mom concluded that you do indeed, get what you pay for. (lol) So instead we went to the Holiday Inn. MUCH better. Good price, nice hotel, and it was close to fsu. That was really the only negative part of our trip. (Apart from the traffic and parking, but that's to be expected.)

So I've been doing a lot of research on all of the state universities (almost obsessively lol) and I've concluded that FSU will be the best fit for me. So after reading about the school for a very long time, I was really really hoping actually visiting the school would be a positive experience. It meant a lot to me, because if I hated it for some reason, where else was I to go? Anyway, I LOVED it.

The campus was beautiful. I loved how the buildings looked, I loved the trees everywhere, and the hills/landscape. I thought it was really cool how FSU is right in the center of the city, but when you go on campus it looks like you're somewhere completely different. Even though the tour was over, we kept coming back to the campus the rest of the weekend just to walk around. We went to the library, spent a lot of time on Landis Green (playing in the fountain too! :P) and just walked around looking at everything.

We came at a good time too; the freshman were just moving in for the summer C session. So I got to tour 2 of my top dorm choices, Broward and Bryan! (Degraff and Wildwood are my other two) They were both very clean, and nice. I liked how most had their whiteboards up, with nice messages on them like, "knock on our door, we want to meet everyone!" and various other things. Everyone was very nice and welcoming.

We also went to a club bbq near Strozier library. The club leader talked to my mom and I, and even offered to give me rides to the grocery store when I began attending! Like I said, everyone was very welcoming and nice.

There is SO much to do at FSU. There is always something social going on. They have the free theater with independent films and regular movies, bowling alley, circus, all free football/baseball/basketball etc.games, hundreds of student organizations (I especially liked the "hide and go seek club" haha) many different dance classes you can take, many social gatherings, and not to mention all of the bars and clubs around the school.

We got to drive around the frat & sorority houses and they were all very pretty. I'm undecided about that kind of thing, but the houses looked awesome, so who knows.

But coming home was depressing. There is so little to do here, I'm really bored now. After seeing the plethora of activities available at FSU, everything else seems kind of dull in comparison. Part of me wants to leave RIGHT NOW and start attending (even though I can't obviously) however, I don't feel ready to leave just yet. I want to take this year off to save up money, travel, volunteer, and just feel a bit more ready to leave. I guess I'll just have to wait!

Overall, everything was great. Very good experience. I loved the school and can't wait to hopefully begin attending. My mom loved it too, and she she kept saying that she wanted to go back to college haha. My little brother was jealous (especially regarding the hide and seek club :}) and kept saying that this was where he was going to go.

My son brought two of his guy friends who attend other universities up to see FSU last weekend as well. They had such an awesome time and absolutely loved it. Now he is anxious to go again this weekend. He cannot wait for the Fall.

Got to say my daughters feel the same way, neither came home much at all except for holidays. Once home, they'd sleep and relax, but soon were anxious to return.

mcooper, you should consider applying for spring 2008. Since your done with high school, work and save and consider applying to start spring semester instead of waiting until fall. Without big plans for your gap year, a spring start may be just the thing. Talk to admissions, but given your situation, it is a thought.

I agree with sunnyflorida. Under the circumstances, I'd not wait too long.

Also - you might want to fill out a Visit Report on FSU. It'll help others... :)

That's a good idea, I'll have to give them a call.
And parent2noles, is there a link to where I can fill out a visit report? I'd like to read others as well.

Sure...here's a link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/visits/

I lived in Bryan this past year, and Ill be a Sophomore next year. Bryan is an awesome place to live because its the smallest dorm, and its a living learning community, which youll find out doesnt mean that much, but you really get to know all of the people you live with. Besides all that youve got the great football traditions, and attractive people as far as the eye can see.
