High school student here! Normally, I trust my schools system and management of grades, however I’ve noticed something wrong with my GPA. As I was talking to my counselor about grade forgiveness (my GPA tanked due to extenuating circumstances), I received my school transcript, and was told to count up my grades in order to calculate if it was really worth it to purchase packets to raise my GPA. However, as I was counting and doing my math, I noticed that my GPA on my transcript was lower than what my math indicated (0.09 lower, to be exact). This is a big deal, seeing as this affects my ability to receive a major scholarship. I triple checked my math, and am certain I am right. I took my transcripts to the registrar’s office to have it reviewed… Was this the right choice? I tried to talk to my counselor about it first, but she kept brushing me off.
Nothing wrong with asking for an error to be fixed. If that is the job of the registrar, you did the right thing.
I think it’s fine. Be proactive. If you’re wrong, no harm, no foul.
No, definitely get it fixed. You worked hard for that!
Absolutely correct, it may be that you’ve overlooked something in the way they count courses, but there’s no harm in learning that. Our school said they only counted “academic” courses, but I never could get my younger son’s GPA to match what the school had calculate. Leave in orchestra? Omit it? Only count the honors orchestra? Since most (but not all!) things I tried resulted in a slightly lower GPA, I didn’t follow through, but I would have asked my kid to bring it up, if it had been more obviously wrong.
“purchase packets to raise my GPA”
What does this mean?
