My grades...say good-bye to ivies?

sigh...some canadian school r so easy, but our school is really competitive...i shouldn't have choosen this school! especially when it isn't a feeder school...=(

Heh, what kind of attitude is that?

Rise to the occasion, be inspired to show the world and yourself, how good you are; I wish my school were more competitive, that'd be awesome, cause then you're surrounded by inspiration and a sense of urgency.

Man, remember, what we do in life echoes in eternity. Don't present yourself as a whining baby with excuses; if you're good you'll thrive anywhere, regardless of where you go. Fight like a man, get into Harvard.

lol, tried to think that way forever...it's just so confusing now, i think which h.s. we choose does have an effect...=(

"a=b
a^2=ab
a^2-b^2=ab-b^2
(a+b)(a-b)=b(a-b)
a+b=b
b+b=b;
done. for 1=2 consider b as 1"

Just a question, for step four doesn't (a-b) equal zero, and you can't divide both sides by zero? Or maybe that is what "false proof" is?

If I stayed in Malaysia I would have taken the IB as well. Apparently, it requires some hard work ;/. I would say that is a respectable grade.

so confused..we didn't do that in Math HL yet...><

No, a B is not going to stop you from getting into an ivy league school. Ivy league schools aren't merely focused on your grades. They look at the whole package - and usually, they are looking for something that is unique about you. It's impossible to tell whether you will get in or not. I know people with 1600s and 4.0s who get rejected. Then again, I know some who are accepted. I know people with 1100s and 3.0s who get in. Then again, I know some who are rejected. It's a crapshoot.

If you're the average applicant, it's a "crapshoot" as you put it. However, the key to distinguish yourself and stop it from becoming a crapshoot is to place all your passion into something and become exceptional in it - obviously it's not a crapshoot for the winner of Intel ISEF or most of the finalists.

Scores aren't everything, but scores are not the only thing you can determine - you speak of the "whole package" - that IS something that is in your power to determine.

wow jealousy...at my school 93 is the lowest a.

IB's are way better than the basic public school curriculums... don't prevent others from taking them simply because you suck

Definitely Radon. If I had the opportunity again to choose between Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate, I'd definitely choose the latter; International Baccalaureate is a privilege, a chance for an awesome education experience that should you choose it, increase the breadth and depth that you see in this world.

not necessarily...I choose IB for that reason but I truly regret not choosing AP...besides, I am not doing THAT bad...am i?

Maybe I hate IB bec I took too many HLs...*sigh =(

I hate IB bec it consumes up too much of my time...I want to spend more time on my research...I would've done Science Fair this yr (pretty sure will get into Nationals) but because of major assignments, it wasn't possible. .For that reason, NEVER take IB!

and I should mention, other ppl in my school who get str.A's do less ECs but one person i know said that she'd make up stuff! I felt so mad but there's nothing i could do...i guess marks count way more than...that's why she's putting everything into grades and no ECs bec she said ecs are not checked...I felt so cheated and ya...i get bad grades and bad ecs...><

Actually, IB students are known to be some of the most active students in the school. (Or at mine at least) And actually, there is no reason to make up EC's. The adcoms have been doing their work for, how many years? They can see right through that kind of stuff.

Also, if you manage your time, anything is possible...(use common sense for that word "anything" ) IB is supposed to also teach you better time-management skills, and for me, it has.

IB has taught me procratination skills...>< jkjk
Yup, it's true, all our clubs' heads/prez are all IB students..so ya. =0

what`s exactly a feeder school?

Ali_liu, I had similar grades to yours and I got into 4 Ivies. Your SATs and essays will be the difference-makers.

Alexandre, u must have way better ECs than i do...=)
Wow, 4 Ivies! If u don't mind, which ones did u get into? I dunno which to apply to and i dun wanna apply to all..in case they share lists...^^

My ECs were typical. Captain of Tennis and Soccer teams as well as founded of our School's Drama club. I also did some volunteer work, coaching tennis to handicapped children. Good ECs I suppose, but nothing special. My essays and recs were probably good but not great. My SATs were very strong. I got into Brown, Columbia (which was much easier to get into in 1992), Cornell and Penn (also much easier to get into in 1992).

What do you want to major in? What kind of setting (urban, rural, small or large) do you like? It is easy to narrow down the list of Ivies because they varry substantially one from the other.

I have lived in many diff. types of cities/towns..but i prefer the urban or suburban settings over the rural settings. For that reason, I am not going to apply to Cornell. I don't like small schools so I probably won't apply to Dartmouth either.. I am undecided about my major..=(
