Hey everyone,

I am doing the Diploma Programme and wanted to get some feedback on my schedule for Senior Year in terms of the rigor of classes and if I'll be able to handle it based on my current (junior) course load?

Prospective Schedule
IB Math HL
IB Physics SL
IB Chem SL
IB 20th Century World Topics HL (HL is required if you're at my school doing IB)
IB Spanish SL (Language is required)
Theory of Knowledge/AP Econ (Required, 1 semester each)
IB English HL
AP Calc BC

I don''t know if I should use the last class for AP Cal BC or a study hall...

Current Schedule:
AP Calc AB
APUSH
Theory of Knowledge (1st semester)
IB Spanish 4
Physics Honors/Pre-AP
AP Chem
AP English
AP Stats

Thanks!

What’s the point in taking both AP Calculus BC AND IB Math HL? Math HL should cover BC and more, I think.

The only point would be an easy GPA boost, which could help for rank and GPA purposes

Oh heyyyyy~! I remember replying to you about your IB Math HL thread Hi again!
Well first off, I think you should note that colleges are fully aware that Math HL covers AP Calc BC and beyond. Knowing this, colleges won’t think of this as ‘challenging yourself’ enough. It’s not all about rankings for colleges to be honest xD. Is there any other class you can replace this with except study hall? Try for something challenging and something you’re interested in (even though most people would hate taking challenging classes LOL). Your other classes are fine as they are now. Just the AP Calculus BC part… It’s up to you though! It all depends on the kind of college you’re aiming for.

Hi again!
My dream is MIT, which is why I am biased towards an extra Math class. Also, I live in Texas, meaning that using your rank, UT can potentially be your safety school (auto-admit). The only other class I can think of would be AP Bio or IB EVS (EVS would be my go to class as AP Bio is a “you will die for a 3” at my school aka bad teacher)…

Wow you’re JUST like me. My dream school is MIT too! High Five
I’ve done a load of researching for schools like MIT and an extra math class won’t really ‘help’ your admissions. Especially since it’s a repetitive class
MIT is also a science school so those AP Bio and IB EVS are great choices! Up to you which one you wanna do though. I’d rather do AP Biology but since the teacher sucks either take IB EVS or get an AP Bio prep book (like Princeton Review) to help you on the way (I’d do the latter).
I’ll assume you have some good EC’s xD

If you’re heavily leaning towards taking AP Calculus BC with IB Math HL then go for it. Nothing can stop you and it won’t make that much of a difference on your applications. Probably a bit better to do other classes though ^.^

@yunallen best of luck on your MIT App, and thanks for the info!
