My IB Schedule

Im going to be doing the full diploma next year and I was wondering if you think this schedule would be really hard to do well in. I got straight A`s this year(10th grade) so hopefully I will do that well next year.

Early Morning: TOK
IB English HL
IB History of the Americas HL
IB Biology HL
IB Spanish A SL
IB Pyschology SL
VA/US Gov. Advanced
Pre-Calculus

Anyone?

How many hours of HW do you think it will be each night?

......................

.................

shouldnt really be hard to handle, considering many many people do IB. The amount of HW given depends on the school you go to and your teachers. In the end, everyone takes the same final exams but the amount of HW (besides the internal assesments you send to IB) differs from school to school.

Also, what is IB Math Studies like? Does if have enough calculus in it for you to do well on the AP Cal exam, b/c I couldnt do IB Math HL and my school doesnt offer IB Math SL or anything so Im stuck taking Math Studies in 12th grade. I was thinking about taking AP Cal along w/ IB math my senior year.

Math studies barely touches any calculus, even Math methods isnt sufficient to take the AP calc exam unless you self study. If you want a solid background in math, then by all means take AP calc.

I guess thats what I`ll have to do. I wanted to take AP Physics also but I wanted to see how hard next year is to maybe tell if I can handle an all IB & AP schedule. My 12th grade schedule might(big might) look like this:

IB Biology HL
IB History of Americas HL
IB Spanish B SL
IB English HL
IB Math Studies SL
AP Calculus
AP Physics B

Does anybody think my senior schedule would be overwhelming ? or not?

Someone........

Like I said before, it REALLY depends on your school. Some schools give alot of hw and grading might be more difficult. The difficulty of your schedule depends on the classes at your school and also your working habits/what kind of final score you are aiming for.
At my school the workload is pretty intense so ppl (including me) only take classes towards their IB diploma and maybe an extra AP class (I took HL math+AP calc) This may not be the case for you however, so doing full IB+2 extra AP classes in your senior year is totally doable.
Asking your counselor or seniors at your school might be a better option than asking someone here on CC. You
re projected schedule is definately challenging (I
m sure it
d be considered the
most challeging courseload
offered) but no one can tell if it
s overwhelming for you or not.

At our school math studies does not qualify as a diploma course - in other words, you couldn't get a diploma with the above schedule, even though it is rigorous. Do you have an IB counselor or coordinator at your school? If you want the IB diploma be sure your schedule qualifies and plan it out now so no surprises - you are working very hard and don't want to be disappointed!

wow orjr- I
m surprised your school doesnt allow one to take IB math studies towards his or her diploma, even though it
s permitted by the IBO.

Okay. Thanks.

I was just worried b/c everybody is always saying the work in IB is insane and there is so much HW and stuff, and Im pretty sure there is, but then again people will have different views on IB so I'll just have to experience it myself.

yes, it will be insanely hard and a ton of work. but you'll live.

IB really depends on you... you have to be able to learn stuff by yourself and not just rely on your teachers all the time... i know that a subject like maths they don't check your home work like you were in elementary school every lesson... they just expect you to do it and if you don't then that's your own problem....I will be sitting the IB Diploma Exams in a week and this is what i take:
HL Physics
HL Maths
HL Business and Management
SL Philosophy
SL English
SL Spanish
My three HL courses were very demanding (last year they were considered the hardest 3 to get a 7 on)... but i think i will do fine (prob end up straight 6es hopefully)... it's really up to how much you work.

K i'm a full IB student and my schedule looked like this...

Jr. Year:
IB Jr. World Lit (HL)
IB Contemporary History I (HL)
IB Biology 1 (HL)
IB Calculus (SL) -- tested
IB IB Chemistry (SL) -- tested
IB Spanish (SL) -- tested

Sr. Year:
IB Sr. World Lit (testing in May)
IB Contemporary History II (testing...)
IB Biology II (testing...)
IB Theory of Knowledge

yeah, i guess my ib schedule was fairly easy, considering i'm a diploma candidate. however, junior year was a little difficult, but straight a's come at a price. you need time management, for sure. senior year has been pretty amazing so far...lit, history, and bio all take some time, but they're not bad. the difference i found between SL and HL is enormous...make sure you consider that.

your sched. is very similar to mine
Jr. yr:
IB Math SL
IB Biology HL
IB History if the Americas
IB Psychology SL
IB Spanish B SL
AP/IB English
TOK

Sr. yr
IB Math SL
IB 20th Century Topics
AP Chem (i might replace w/ IB Spanish HL)
IB English HL
IB Bio HL
IB Philosophy
AP Calc

It will be insanely hard to get straight A's, especially that 1st semester! good luck to the both of us!

IB Jr. World Lit (HL)
IB Contemporary History I (HL)
IB Calculus (SL)
IB Sr. World Lit
IB Contemporary History II

Last time I checked, those courses don't even exist. Care to clarify? Maybe thats your school's naming system or something.
