I went to the tour today at Emory and it was great. The food at UGA was better but other than that, Emory was by far much better. I felt really comfortable, almost too comfortable.

Some interesting things that happened today:
During the campus life workshop a doctor was describling how Emory has just as many drug and drinking problems as all other universities. The next thing I did was go to a class on the brain. Right as the professor was talking about what happens to mice when thier brains are exposed to acid; a student started shaking for about 20 seconds. It sounded like snoring until he was flopped over. When the medical team came in about 45 seconds, they asked him how many times this has happen before. He said two other times this month. I smell drug use. Yeah it was a little startling.

Yeah heres the rest of my impressions it was late last night:

Rooms: could be better: community showers, sink in room, about 6' 5'' long beds, there is enough space but its not really large either. Free cable/wired internet and wireless. Wireless all over campus.

Gym: like LA fitness, lots of stuff

Classes: about 55 mins most classes, the teacher I visited was bright and knew a lot. However, a little dry at times.

People: they seemed happy, which is really unlike GATech. The the techies were slumped over all the time. no one was in a rush to get any where. Very relaxed. A lot of campus events going on all the time. You will be never bored. Everyone was still asleep basically until about 9-10am.

Computers: imagine doing your typing on a plamsa 70'', They rock. Other then the cox building with the crazy computers, the rest of them on campus are mostly Apple. People tell me they have excellence Tech support.

Healthcare: You are on Emory. Enough said. A call for help took about 45 seconds for medical staff to get there.

The sound proof rooms rock for everything.

The business building has an a room for recording speakers that come to emory. They are broadcast online.

Next year getting to downtown from emory will be easy. Everything is connected by their bus system.

Emory doesn't belong to Coke. Some of the head honchos at Emory gave large endowments to the school, in the form of cash and stock, and I think that's what you're thinking of.

More importantly over the past few years Emory has really started to diversify its endowment. I think I read that only around 15% of Emory's endowment is in Coke stock, while before 2000 it was closer to 65%.
Either way... that's Emory owning Coke... not Coke owning Emory.

However you look at it, the fact remains that most of Emory's campus is named after benefactors from the Coke Company. The Candlers and the Woodruffs are the main ones. Goizueta lends his name to the business school as well.

it didn't seem nearly as JAP-y as I'd heard, a lot of people i saw seemed to be studying, there were a couple groups playing frisbee in the quad. overall it was a lot more laid-back than i'd been led to believe but i'm not sure i saw enough to judge the whole campus since i didn't talk to many students..

im a freshman at emory. the jappy thing is partially true, but only partially. they are here, theres no denying that. but, there arent as many as ud think and there are so many diff types of ppl it doesnt even matter. theres something for everyone, there really is. out of the kids on my hall, id call only 2 jappy. my friends are all as far as u can get from japy, and i personally come into contact with more nonjaps than japs. trust me, its really not that big a deal.
