My invite scares me......! What if it's a lie?

It seems like on CC very few people are saying that they HAVEN'T received an invite to an admitted event.. What if they sent them to everyone? I'd probably cry. I'm not a super-applicant, and neither are some others who have gotten letters. What if something went wrong and I'm NOT in? Is this possible? Didn't something similar happen at UNC last year?

its not, i already called and my parents called two seperate times. if you got one, you will recieve your acceptance package on or around april 1st

i feel the exact same way you do. just thinking about it makes me queasy... that's why i try hard not to. you have to believe in yourself! (as corny as that sounds lol)

Go to:

http://admissions.nyu.edu/

Right under 'Welcome', follow the link for the official explanation. My reading is that if you get an invite, you're in. But the absence of an invite does not necessarily mean that you have been denied admission.

I feel the SAME way that you do! Because apparently on the "top tier" applicants got the "Saturday at the Square" invite, and I'm thinking, and I can't imagine that I'd ever be a "top tier" student. If I am, I know for sure it's not for my grades, it's probably for my portfolio if anything (I got into Tisch). BUT I did call the admissions office and the lady said, "we only send those out to admitted students. I can't say you're in offically, but you'll be getting good news in the mail."

So, you're in... and apparently, a great applicant in their eyes!

well, apparently CC kids are supposed to be on average better applicants than the normal applicant pool.. I think I read somewhere on the forum that our stats are unusually high. I think it's because the mere fact that you're on a college forum shows that you're really concerned about college, and thus more inclined to work harder?

theantithesisof, i agree completely.

You can't really compare the acceptance rates of CCers to regular applicants. If you've taken a course in Statistics you've probably heard of the term 'random sample'. The acceptance rates reported by college sites are the proportions for the population--all the applicants that apply to the certain college. The CC acceptance rates are sample proportions. The CC sample fails 'random sampling', which means that CC proportions may, in fact, be a distorted proportion. The reason that the CC sample fails 'random sampling' is because this forum is based off of 'voluntary response'. People will most likely be more inclined to post about receiving an invite rather than not receiving one. Also, the applicant pool for CCers is not the same as the entire applicant pool for a certain college--CCers generally represent a stronger pool in my opinion. So don't be worried by the fact that a large amount of CCers received an invite, CCers may just be a stronger pool of applicants, which would explain why so many people have received invites.
Then again, I could be completely wrong about all this :)

ahh statistics is giving me a headache lol

ah, sorry for the headache! it's just that I had this really long stat assignment tonight haha.

What does the invitation look like? Is it a formal letter? My son received a post card about an event several weeks ago. We thought it seemed dumb to get an invitation to an admissions event after he applied, but before he got accepted. Was that post card an invitation? If so, anyone have any suggestions how he can get another one, because we threw it out, and we don't know when/where the event is....

lol... that post card means your son got in.. lol... which school did he apply to?

I can't honestly believe that I'm a "strong" applicant considering I just got into Stern with a 3.6 + 32 ACT (1960 SAT though lol).

S applied to Arts and Sciences
