My lab hours are inconsistent. How do I fill out "hours spent per week" and "weeks spent per year"?

I've worked in research labs for the past couple of summers (40 hours per week for 8 weeks). But, last year I was invited back to the lab during the school year and worked for 2-10 hours per week depending on if I had less hours because of a busy weekend or really long hours due to a holiday break. This year I have also been invited back to the lab, but I do most of my research project at home - spending about 2-3 hours per week.

On my Common App, I don't want to put 40 hrs/week for 8 weeks because I've worked much, much longer than 8 weeks. But I can't say 40 hrs/week "all year" because that would be a lie.

What do I tell Common App?

I had this issue as well, but in the form of submitting my hours/ week and total months at my job. I work retail where my hours are inconsistent. Most weeks I worked 10 hours, but around the holidays I work up to 40 hours a week. I basically averaged the number of hours per week so it ended up being approximately 20 hours/week for 11 months. I suggest you do the same. Mention the number of weeks you’ve worked and just average the number of hours per week

You can also add an explanation in the “additional information” section at the end of the application.
