nope u didnt, ur right, people more often than not have no idea what they r talking about here.

And no suze, this isnt just my experience ive sat and watched this happened to alot of people.

Fact is you are a student, you dont know what these adcoms talk about behind closed doors infront of your app, so i dont know why people they think they have a full grasp of your chances.

Heres the fact: 9/10 times on this site, you are hearing from people who are in the SAME boat as you and who know jack about whether you will get in to college or not, and im not gonna lie ive failed to realize this from time to time.

Then why do you do it? And why are you complaining about it, yet still asking for it?

Gotta agree with you there, definitely more than SAT's & grades to get in, but it can be argued that a lot of people are using their own will to get advice from other CC'ers.

But the truth is many have no idea what they are talking about, it's up to the poster to decide which advice is valid & what isn't.

I'd say it's simply a way to filter in that common "college-obsession" among CC'ers into conversation..

what on earth are you talking about, i do appreciate the occasional piece of advice that is actually worth hearing, but otherwise its garbage and people who dont know what they r talking about

ilovecalifornia- an URM is an underrepresented minority (black, hispanic, Native American, etc.), as opposed to the "majority" (white and Asian).

Most CC'ers think WAMC threads are pointless, and I never answer them unless they're in this forum (not even the Duke ones :)). You don't know who will get in, but it doesn't really matter. APPLICANTS ARE INSECURE. They need reassurance. I've seen several CC'ers say "Oh, I'll never get into X school," or "Oh, I'm not nearly smart enough to win that scholarship"- and then go on to get into the school and get the scholarship! Constructive criticism is important, because people tend to underestimate themselves. At the same time, an unhooked applicant with 1.7 GPA applying to HYP will not get in- and CC'ers will tell him so. Like coola said, if you've been on CC long enough, you know who can accurately gauge your chances and who's completely clueless (hint: the people that give numerical or % chances are full of BS).

i usually never post on WAMC threads, cuz in my 3 years of CC, i've seen everything, from subpar applicants getting in, to amazing people not getting in anywhere. Although I can't say I like whatever game colleges are playing in their selection of applicants.
