Do you guys think that people on CC make up stats or exaggerate their stats to make themselves look better...I kind of think soo

I would agree

I think I didn't do that enough on my ED app

No, not really. Most of the people who actually apply to top schools like HYP have really good SATs.

there's always a chance. But, the best thing to do is not to get mad. Take it as a goal to reach for.

I admit, at first I was intimidated at posting my real scores on this board! I added 100 points to it, i really have a 1120 :(. I do think other ppl probably do this too!

there are always liars on forums.

Don't feel bad michelec! I've haven't done as well as most members on this board but I think that the resource is great and should be used by all and not just the perfect score-ers.

To the OP, I've never lied about my stats but I have not elaborated on points about myself which I find are weak... but when I do my applications and essays I did the same thing.

I agree with you! This website is awesome, its cool to talk to other college bound students from all over the place. Yea on my apps, I am doing everything I can to make myself look awesome! Good Luck to you 2!

I feel that the majority of people on College Confidential are truthful in their stats. I mean, why would someone lie about something as serious as applying to college. No need to lie about it since the adcom will receive your real stats.

Good Luck

Jerod

people definately do it. I didn't, i posted my real scores and ECs and such.

What the hell is jerod? Send me a personal message tellingme what it is. I keep seeing it in your posts.

I just thought it was his name.

well think about it. Who would want to get fake descriptions of what their chances are at colleges and what colleges fit them academically? The reason most people come onto this site in the first place is to get their chances. What good would it do them to inflate their statistics therefore getting improper advice. The colleges will recieve their real scores and their match/reach and safeties will not be what they will encounter and in turn could not get into college. Not the best thing to do

No, not really. Most of the people who actually apply to top schools like HYP have really good SATs.

Actually I think he was referring more to the amount of ECs most people here have...

Jerod, your right, but you have to also consider the fact that people want to impress others by showing unbelievable stats, which doesnt help them at all. Also, many people may set unrealistic goals, in this i mean that they say iff i get these stats, what are my chances?, but without saying the "iff."

i doubt it... ppl might lie to people they know in order to make themselves feel better, but what's the point of lying on an anonymous online board to strangers--especially when the whole point of posting your resume up there is to have people evaluate your chances as realistically as possible?

I know...I got a 1370 on my SAT's and was really proud of myself. Then I came to this board and saw that so many people had between 1400 and 1600. At least I know that I am one of the top scorers in my school!

theres prolly some lieing, but not too much. cuz the ppl who r on this board are the ones who are seriously thinkin about college, and takin time out of their already sleep-deprived days to come here. thats the kinda dedication (or just plain natural abliity) that gives the 1400+

Well its either people exaggerate their stats or the people who use this forum are very self selected. I think its a combination of both.

I agree. These people represent the top % of the applicant pool.
