I typed a lot for this visit report so I’m gonna post it here too darnit. I know i only covered a few of many broad topics but oh well.
Well… to elaborate…
Yeah, the information session was nice, basically like any other you’ll go to at any other college. I go more for the tour of the campus, because I believe that this will convey more of the feel of the college. The tour guide you get is important in my opinion to, and RPI provided your cute boy next door to do the honors. He was informative and seemed to be thriving at RPI…shocker but lets be honest, his enthusiasm made it interesting and did kinda reign me in.
So walking around campus, yeah, I was actually really impressed by the buildings… the architecture school paying off? Not sure how old the building were, but some of the dorms around the quad area I found to be beautiful, with a modern pottery barn feel. And of course they have their crowned jewel in the preforming arts center… The school seems to be propped on a hill overlooking Troy, so you get some good views of the area… but I personally am not impressed by the area. Hmmph.
The dorms seemed to be pretty basic, but they don’t let you in an actual room on the tour, which I would have liked. I guess this is because or freshmen, there are a bunch of different housing options. I was happy to hear that they don’t have any forced triples, but they have doubles and suite triples. The dorms were really empty when I was there, but I guesssss I’ll forgive them with it being Saturday morning… The one we were in had lines of doubles, and then lounge areas that were really quite drab. Maybe it was the weather? I personally would have been itching to hang a RPI banner at the least, but darn if those kids don’t like their simplicity.
Student body. This is honestly what got me, but I honestly think I was just there on the wrong day. As a girl, I came knowing that my tour group would be a hoard of mainly boys, and it was. A group of typical high school boys, looking all american. Another girl who was pretty friendly and taking pages of notes (isn’t that why they give us 15 pamphlets…?) So I was sitting there thinking, okay, this is a group I could enjoy getting to know over the next 4 years. However, as we began our trek around campus, we all started to notice a bunch of people in costumes. It turned out that this particular saturday was a big video game dress up pow wow or something like that… so we started to see crowds of kids dressed up in all these weird anime costumes and stuff… Personally, that is NOT up my alley. I have heard that RPI has a lot of the gamer types, and to prove it to me I think they managed to gather every last one of them up that day for all to see. Ugh… I guess it’s allowed to state my opinion on here… these kids were just weird. If you’ve seen anime and you’re weirded out by me, you too would be totally turned off by these masses of costumed and excited college kids. So pretty much, this left me with a sour taste of what the student body would be like… because that is NOT who i want to spend 4 years getting to know. Idk about you.
Walking around campus, I didn’t really notice what is said to be the terrible girl to boy ratio. Again, as a girl, I don’t know how bad that would be… I mean it kinda elevates you on the social totem pole, and i meaaaan… isn’t college a good place to find a husband?
Soooo. Overall I really liked RPI. I came away and was excited to share what I saw once I realized they probably didn’t have their best face on as far as student body goes. I’m tired of typing… feel free to shoot me any questions, and I would seriously love to hear any other opinions!

Went to a place called Ali Baba that was pretty good, its Mediterranean food I think? Wasn’t too busy, but again, it was 11 on Sat.
