I don't think a major in economics is worth 170k+ but my parents would like me to apply. We are a low income family and NYU would have to give my family 90%+ tuition for my family to be able to afford an education there. My stats are slightly below average too so please justify my decision that applying to NYU is not worth the money?

If you live in San Ramon, go to Santa Clara!

APPLYING to nyu isn’t worth the money? So, you mean the 75 bucks for the app fee? I guess if your heart’s not really into NYU then don’t bother applying there. Use the $75 for something else lol. If you do apply and get in but can’t get financial aid, just don’t go, it’s a crapload of money

^$75 is actually nothing to sniff at for many applicants, so your post was a bit insensitive. Regarding the OP’s query, you should only apply if YOU are truly interested in the school AND living in NYC- which is heaven on earth for many students, but quite unpleasant for others. It isn’t just the tuition- NYC is a VERY expensive city to live in . Know yourself- follow your passions- this is your college experience- what is a good fit for your parents is not the same for you. You never know how the dice will roll with financial aid at NYU- so if you are interested and can perhaps get a fee waiver (your GC can help with that), then there may not be a down side to applying- but only if they have a field of study that you are very interested in, and they are well known for. Otherwise, there are hundreds, literally, of fine programs elsewhere for much less money and a different “quality of life”. My kid wouldn’t live anywhere else and this was one of my kid’s top choices, but not everyone feels that way.
