My response to the talent show song question.

I'm going into the Fall 2009 semester as a Junior transfer somewhere. Although not my first choice, I applied to NYU. I thought I'd share my response to the talent show question and get some feed back. Like I said my heart isn't really set on NYU or anything, but I'd give the school mad props if they actually thought my response was cool. Anyway, it certainly accurately represents a side of me and especially how I feel about heavy metal.

"You have been selected to sing in a talent show. What song would you choose? Why?"

I would sing "Run to the Hills" by Iron Maiden because Iron Maiden rocks harder than any other band in existence. Everyone will be better off having heard my stunning rendition of this metal classic.
After my set,I will kick over the amplifiers, light my guitar on fire, steal the blue ribbon or trophy, throw up a metal sign, and jump into the crowd. As I'm carried by the sea of hands, the ghost of Randy Rhoads will descend from heaven and shred a few notes on his spectral guitar in my honor.

P.S. Whether I get in or not, it's still the coolest thing I've put on a college app so far.

I would go ahead and pack your things for NYU.

compared to yours, mine was seriously subpar. (extremely, since it was my least favorite short response.)

i think that will be the best response NYU will ever get

^ Hey, thanks a lot.

I'd also like to mention that I was laughing maniacally while writing that response.

Like I said, NYU isn't my first choice and I think that fact made it easier for me to really be myself. Then again, other schools I applied to: Columbia U, Amherst College didn't have questions like that to play with.

baahaha i loled.

NYU will probably like it- for my response when I applied 2 years ago, the question was "what did you do last sunday?" and everyone I knew wrote something really profound, and I just wrote about how I went to Costco because I was bored, hungry, broke and wanted some free samples.

@shooteh

we were supposed to write something profound? -shrug- i wrote something similar to that. i talked about going grocery shopping for baking cookies. snickerdoodles. heh.

Choose Happy Birthday, a lot of people do it and it's an easy but favorite song of the admissions office. I know many people who've gotten in using it!!!!

You are the shizz.

This is AMAZING, I guess I am a future Sterny and now know who i am jealous of.

Isn't that a little...CRAZY? Is NYU looking for whacky asnwers (albeit CREATIVE jaykoblives!)

Am I the only one that thinks this is a bit... too insane?

lol..... the best response i've seen so far..... it will be a big loss for NYU if you choose not to attend...

I didn't concern myself with what NYU was looking for when I answered that question. The answer reflects who I am and how I felt about the question. If I'm too crazy for NYU, so be it :)

My daughter said she would sing the Alphabet backwards. She did it in a talent show when she was really little, and she said it would be a way to mix things up...and she didn't need to have a great voice to do it!!! Also, she pointed out that everyone would know the words

That's absolutely adorable!
