My Roomie Got Admitted for Summer B, I Got Admitted for Fall :(

So I am thinking of asking to be moved to Summer B so she doesn't have to go alone in the summer. We have been best friends since we were little kids and never expected that one would get admitted for a different start date.

What is the Summer B session like? Would they move me to Summer B? I am sure that lots of people who got Summer B would rather have Fall, right, so maybe I could just switch with someone?

Switch with me  lmao

Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using CC App

LOL. Alleviate. I am not sure I would be allowed to control who took my place. But they should let me, right? I don’t want my roomie to have to go alone to summer b!

That’d be legit if there can be some trade-off deal lol. I applied for Summer but idk I realized June 27 is going to come by really quick :((

It is, but my hometown is a small town and G-ville is the big city compared to where I live so getting out of here on the 27th would make for a more exciting summer!

Ah, true. I’m from Orlando…so yea :P. Are you going to call them and try to switch?

I have to ask my parents first. Florida Bright Futures doesn’t pay for summer.

Exactly. That’s why I want to switch also.

Admissions is very slow to accept any changes in starting term. Even though it seems perfectly reasonable to allow a switch, it’ll probably be a headache for you to even try.

Summer B is really a freshmen semester. I always personally get out of dodge before summer B, and my sister wouldn’t teach summer B cause incoming freshmen usually suck (especially since they lump the less desirable ones into summer B). From the perspective of a froshman, it’s probably a great transition. You can take maybe one or two classes, and get acclimated to the new surroundings. The dorms tend to be more social during summer B cause it’s rare to find somebody stressed.

What if I want to switch for financial reasons? I didnt know BF doesn’t cover Summer. Would UF consider the switch?

someone who was offered summer B cannot switch. of course most people wont want to do summer, admissions offers certain people summer to be NICE and not reject them.

My sis went summer last year and she loved it. you guys can still room for fall. you live in one dorm for summer and one for fall, usually (you could possibly be in the same hall, but definitely not the same room). you move rooms in between the two terms. My sis lived in a different residence hall and had different roommates from summer.

just live with her for fall, no biggie. she can meet someone new by rooming with someone else for summer.

^ That is not true, I was accepted to Summer and I was changed to Fall.

Last year, my S applied for summer B with his best friend. We were shocked when UF admitted both boys, but switched my S to Fall 2010. His best friend got the summer B. When we talked to the administration…the real truth is that they can switch you back if you wish from Fall to Summer B. HOWEVER*** this switch will happen very, very late in the game and you probably won’t get a dorm room! All the other summer b admits get to pick their dorms and they won’t let you pick one until around May 7! So you will either get a triple room, unairconditioned dorm or will not get on campus housing. After learning all this, my S decided no way. He had no chance to live with his friend anyway during summer b and definitely didn’t want to sublet an apartment for 3 months. He decided to stick with Fall and it worked out great! He visited his friend during summer B in gainesville half way thru summer b session. Now they are roommates the whole fall season in Broward and are having a blast. Housing choices will suck for you if you switch from fall to summer b. They can switch you if you insist, but just beware that you will be at the very bottom of the list to pick housing on campus for summer b!

How exactly do you switch to summer B??

Does anyone know who roommates are paired up?

I literally know NO ONE going in to Summer B lol, hoping to have a normal, fun roomie instead of like the typical loud, party person! :P

@JKidrauhl… you should have received an email about Roombug for finding roommates…

Really? Haven’t received that email yet…frustration

Contact the department ASAP. They are very helpful. Make sure you have submitted all appropriate fees. There are several.
