Wow, what a disgusting story. Can’t wait to buy a firearm for myself. There are too many vermin on this planet harming good people and people who just want to be left alone.

The scumbags that killed Miree need to fry.

it’s Alabama, they’ll definitely get at least life without parole. Too bad it wasn’t Texas or Virginia where they get things done quickly.

@Christian don’t move to DC then, our firearm laws blow and you’d probably go to jail for shooting someone who attacked you

christian - my sentiments exactly. If you get a handgun, I would advise a .45; sends a nice, clear message. :D

OP–It seems like you’re doing a good job in a very difficult situation. You had a problem, you sought advice, you’re ignoring ■■■■■■…

As I think about it, I believe the reason that the RA got angry when you and your suitemates cleaned up the mess is not that you failed to follow policy (clearly, you didn’t know what the policy was, and clearly, she didn’t tell you) but that she knows how much trouble she could be in for not responding to you when you tried to contact her Saturday night. Responding to situations like this is the purpose of her job.

I hope college life improves for you soon!

Thanks for getting this thread back on track, schockolade.

I hope your roommate situation resolves itself soon. This is a terrible way to start your freshman year. Good luck, OP

Has he come back to the room yet?

Hi, OP
I hope things have settled down for you and that you and your roomie have talked things out. I bet he’s horribly embarrassed.

^
That site isn’t even funny.

How are things going with your roommate? Did he offer an apology and reassurance that he will try to avoid these situations in your room again?

After reading through this thread, I regret not filing a lawsuit against my roommate’s girlfriend after she puked everywhere. She ruined a very fine towel when cleaning it up : (

As for the people discussing firearms, if you want to pull a gun on someone, you better be shooting that gun, because after you pull a gun on them, they have every right to pull a gun out and shoot you.

Inquiring minds would like to know!

As for the people discussing firearms, if you want to pull a gun on someone, you better be shooting that gun, because after you pull a gun on them, they have every right to pull a gun out and shoot you. ~ Akhman

If you paid attention most of the responses regarding purchasing firearms was in response to an article about a victim who was shot in his own home by robbers, in a very disturbing fasion.

I’m not sure what kind of comment you are trying to make, but it certainly is not making clear sense. I think it goes without saying that people shouldn’t randomly pull firearms without cause. If that was your attention, well - DUH!

A person who pulls a gun on someone else without justification is just a thug or bully. Anyone who is familiar with gun safety will tell you that your weapon is never to be used in a show of force and should only be withdrawn in response to deadly force or the potential of severe bodily harm (or protecting others from the same force). The only situation I can think of where you could pull a firearm without in imminent danger is if you find someone breaking into your house (car). Then, you may use your weapon to exercise competitive advantage. If you are unable to control distance and the perp attacks you, then you would be justified to fire your weapon (generally). Of course, it’s a case by case situation and laws and verbage change from state to state.

However, in the case of the posted article, the victim would have been very justified to fire on the attackers upon entry, perhaps giving one verbal warning before shooting.

As an experienced Certified Firearms Instructor via many organizations, a CCW holder, and a daily firearms carrier, I can honestly say that guns SHOULD be carried by law abiding citizens and every home in America should have at least one firearm for protection purposes. If the article provided about this young Vanderbilt graduate doesn’t emphasize this need, nothing does.

A responsible person with a firearm is a very valuable public safety asset and communities should do more to encourage people to carry while in public.

Bad guys will carry guns regardless of laws, that’s why they are bad guys. Let’s not turn into sheep out of a paranoia about firearms.

People can have whatever opinion they want on the matter, but when it comes down to it - firearms GIVE YOU OPTIONS when put in a dangerous situation. The young man in the article had no weapon, and therefore had no options - other than to just be defenseless.

I encourage everyone to give themselve OPTIONS. Take the time to learn proper gun safety, gun mechanics and shooting techniques. Then you can responsibly protect yourself, home and family.

Hopefully none of will be put in a situation where we need to use a weapon to defend our lives, but it happens daily to other people. In fact, my wife was danergously close to the LA Fitness shooting last year in Pittsburgh, PA. So it happens - bat crazy world we live in.

and the thread diverges…

Roommate from hell.

I could not live with that. I have problems with both roommates who fail to respect boundaries and with puke.

There’s nothing wrong with getting an RA involved. Vanagandr (sp?) is slightly overreacting although i have nothing against the underlying message. I would have no sympathy for a roommate like this and hope the OP got a room change.

that’s a hilarious story. I would definitely pack my bags and get the hell out of there though. Your roommate sounds like a dickhead and a bad influence.

btw. Has he gone missing? or is he out at someone else’s place strung out on drugs?

Natural selection will take care of him.

Natural selection very well might…but will his estate have enough money to settle the damage he has caused?

If the roommate dies of alcohol poisoning or a car wreck or what have you, I’d love to be a fly on the wall if the other roommate presented a bill to the grieving family for the barfed-upon luggage. Its not all about the money. Good grief.
