"This is a possibility but far from a logical argument. And even if it's true, even the most fervent Christian will accept that you aren't interested in converting if you let them know."

This whole statement is ridiculous. Enough said

"This is a possibility but far from a logical argument. And even if it's true, even the most fervent Christian will accept that you aren't interested in converting if you let them know."

This whole statement is ridiculous. Enough said

How is it ridiculous, Sweetny007?

Christians are constantly trying to get "sinners" to convert. Are you kidding me? All so these new converted bible thumpers can join their church and give them 10% every week. What a scam.

Two words, tallkell: false stereotype.

I gave you a logical argument. Just because you choose not to accept it does not make it not logical.

Relegious zealots are relentless. Saying your not interested does not deter them from trying to brain wash you. Again just because you do not believe this to be true does not change the fact that it is.

what false stereotype? that christians are invasive, judgemental, hypocritcal, and ignorant?

No, and no! This picture of the relentless religious zealot is one that is becoming more and more prevelant, but it is simply not accurate for almost all Christians. The televangelists, the Westboro Baptists, the politically obsessed preachers like Pat Robertson...these are what people think Christians are, but to attach their evangelical beliefs on all Christians is indeed logical folly.

Sigh, yes tallkell, the false stereotype that Christians are invasive, judgmental, hypocritical and ignorant.

Pookdogg, you speak as if we have no personal experience dealing with christians. I went to a private christian school. I can tell you that it is extremely rare for them not to try to continually convert you. If they can't they try to make you feel like garbage. It is so sad.

I think you guys are going to become senior members off this thread alone...

I congratulate you in advance! :)

Well, here's the thing, Sweetny007. The job of the private Christian school is, indeed, to try to convert you. Your parents did lock you in that specific place for four years. What do you expect the school leaders to do? There's a significant difference between being a supposedly willingly captive audience in a explicitly Christian school, so to speak, and living everyday life with someone who practices Christianity.

jesus christ pook, get over it.

The school itself did not try to convert me . The christians I met as a result of being at the school did. Nice try though. ;) Anyway I am not going to argue the validity of christianity as we will be arguing over two different levels of thought. I merely think it is rude and imposing to ask someone their relegion when you do not even know them. If you want to turn this into an attack on christianity that is your choice.

1.) We will simply have to agree to disagree on whether it is rude and imposing to ask someone their religion. I will stand by my assertion that OP's roommate related said question in all innocence and should not be taken offense at, but, I suppose, my opinion may be biased in that regard.

2.) I didn't turn this into an attack on Christianity. The tone adopted by many people on this thread conveyed an (in my opinion) unjust image of Christianity. People like our good friend tallkell did explicitly turned it into an attack on Christianity.

3.) Most importantly, I will agree with the more senior members of this board that this thread has long reached the point of dimishing returns. Here's hoping that we all find what we are looking for here at Berkeley, whatever it may be. And here's hoping that people like Sweetny007 and I find more agreeable, less sensitive topics to debate about on this board. This concludes my participation in this thread, and may it die quickly.

bump

(10 char)

double bump

The topic of Eskimos was not analyzed to the depth I would like.

Could we move the discussion of Eskimos to the College Life or High School Life forums? It would be slightly more relevant there :)

I agree we neglected the Eskimo argument completely.

Eskimos are too short.

I hope I don't get one as a roommate.
