I just appeared for my SAT 1 and got the following scores

reading 490!
writing 690
math 700

I also have a couple of ECs and 6As in O levels and 4 As in AS level
Is this an adequate score for an international student who needs to apply for financial aid.
please help....

Well, I guess it depends on what colleges you’re looking at. From browsing on the Ivy League forums, I discovered that virtually all the international “chance” topic creators have ~2200 or higher SATs, so the competition is pretty ridiculous. If you’re looking to other colleges however, I’m not sure.

I think you should take it again if you can… for reading, practice a lot of just CR sections. A technique my sister taught me was reading just the stems of the questions (not the answers to the questions because they confuse you) and underlining in the passage where the line references occur so that when you’re reading, you pay attention to that section or even go to the questions and answer it. =) i increased my score from a 590 to 730 so i know how it feels… CR was my lowest score before =(

My primary choices are Lafayette, Villanova, Upenn, Stanford, Reed, WPI, Richmond and gettysburg…
Please recommend any other college that you think is suitable for me which give financial aid to international students.

You can estimate your own chances of being admitted to a given school by googling for its ‘Common Data Set’ and checking sections C9 to C12 to see how your numbers compare to those of the recent matriculating class.

None of those schools that you just listed are in any way mediocre. With those scores, acquiring financial aid will be quite difficult. And being an international doesn’t help the slightest. Get involved- right now I really can’t find a single reason why stanford or penn would accept you even if you had the money. Good luck.
