I am a freshman majoring in EE, and I have

computer science 31 - Smallberg
eng comp 3 - staff
history 13a - meranze (my ge course)

I just want to know if that's an ok schedule? And if you have any insight into those classes and the teachers. I want to get into math 31b this quarter, since i want to keep up with my math, but would it be too much if I exchanged history 13a for math 31b?

Thanks your help will be much appreciated. ;]

There are lots of math 31b classes open right now, so if you want to switch, switch NOW! And to answer your question I don’t think it would be too hard to manage cs 31, 31b, and comp 3. I don’t know how hard engineering classes are but from my experience 1 science class 1 math class, and one writing class are perfectly manageable

Lol ya i checked, but i’m a freshman so i’m restricted from registration to math classes till the 8th of septmeber. BUt since its math 31b, i don’t think any 2-4th years would sign up… LOL

***btw, i just realized that I was able to get into History 20 with Mellor, so i switched into it ;] Heard it was a good class for a ge? <— confirm? if possible ;]

English Comp 3 is very easy from what I’ve heard. History classes are usually a lot of reading, but for the teachers I’ve had, the tests were straightforward know vocab + write about a topic they gave you ahead of time.

Now CS 31… that’s the introduction to computer science that all engineers have to take right? Do you have any CS background? Its a notoriously hard class for many non-CS engineers since you have to compete with CS majors who are taking the class. (especially in fall) The posters on this board love smallberg though, so he’s probably your best bet for taking the class. According to my two good friends who are CS, programming isn’t hard per say…but rather, its time consuming. They stay up all the time coding haha. Definitely start early on your projects.

If you’re comfortable with calculus, Math 31B is not bad IMO. I don’t know how you view GE’s, (want to get rid/or want breaks), but if I were you, I would take 2 cores (like 31b + CS31) with 1 GE so you can save the other GE for a quarter when you need a breather.

tldr: Your schedule is definitely doable, and 31b instead of history is not bad at all.
Just remember that CS takes a lot more time then you’d think
(with 3 classes you should have plenty of time)

AH thank you, I heard that cs takes alot of time, but with the curent schedule i basically have a free monday, wednesday, and friday. If I drop my history class for math 31b, then i basically get the whole tuesday and thursday free, except for the eng comp class at 5 LOL. I guess my fall schedule and how well i am at it will depend on my time management. Thank you very much for your input.

Btw, I started out with 2 ge’s and a computer science 31 class this morning… but i felt that that was wayyyyy to laid back, luckily I was able to get english comp to level it out.
