i basically have a solid 93 average in a couple of CP classes, but my school won't let me challenge myself and go into the honors class. I know i can handle them, but now im ticked because good colleges wont even consider me because i get straight A's in "easy" classes.

What do I do? How do I tell colleges that I WANTED to challenge myself?

At least in my school, you can override a teachers reccomendation by getting a form signed by your parent/guardian.
Have they given you a reason to why they won’t allow you to take harder classes?

Kmac - You’re starting to sound like a ■■■■■ … I’m sure that’s not what you intend, but I’m just saying …

“How do I tell colleges that I WANTED to challenge myself?”

If your parents are unwilling to ADVOCATE for you, and your GC is unwilling to ADVOCATE for you, and your teachers are unwilling to ADVOCATE for you, then:

Take all the APs you can, and take some college courses at the local community college. And do some challenging stuff outside the classroom.

A call may not help. Make an appointment with your Parents and the Principal to talk about it and then listen to why the school has not put you in the honors program. I may be something stupid or informed judgement but everyone should talk about it. Don’t let a decision that effects you just happen but don’t bully your way in either. Listen and decide with your parents what you should do next. If your unsure you may want to consult with a trusted teacher who knows you.

I agree with most of what NewHope33 said but I also know sometimes systems put the best interest of the system first and don’t look at the individual.

hyeonjlee had this same problem with her S’s hs not letting him take AP classes during his junior year. She just posted on the Parents Cafe board that she spoke with the school and was successful in getting her son (who was qualified) into the AP classes he wanted. Perhaps you could PM her and ask her about her strategy with the school, but at least take a look at her threads, including the earlier one when she talked about the problem and other parents made suggestions about approaching the school.
