my situation about class rank, optional update form

OK, here's the situation I'm in:

My school "does not rank," which means that they don't reveal rank to colleges on applications, even if the application explicitly asks the school counselor for it.

My school does, however, do class rank for the top 10 ("honor 10") for graduation purposes and for a state-wide scholarship given to the top 2 highest ranked students from each high school who go to a Wisconsin college (public or private).

I just found out today that I'm salutatorian of my class of 225. Since this obviously was not included in my Stanford app, do you think I should include it on the optional update form? (i.e. for #3 - "Are there unusual circumstances or other pertinent information that you think we should be aware of in evaluating your application for admission?").

But here's the catch: Stanford sees my high school transcript, which is all A's, so they already know that I take a rigorous courseload and do well. Would including the fact that I'm salutatorian on the optional update form only hurt me, since they already see my grades and courses and including that would just seem arrogant and unnecessary?

What are your thoughts? Thanks!

I could see it being helpful to their evaluation to know that. Seeing straight A's in hard classes might just show that you go to some school where they make everybody take AP classes and have severe grade inflation as to improve chances of students getting into college. But seeing that you are highly ranked in that class shows that you must have worked hard to get those A's.

i second turtle

Just make sure you clarify. Just say it like "On Feb..., my class rank of 2/225 was released." I know it sounds crappy, but my point is to let them know you just got this info, rather than "oh yeah I'm number 2. I know this is good and I'm hoping to up my chances now after remembering"

yeah make sure you explain the date, so they don't think you've just come up with the statistic. it is impressive, though.
