My teacher STILL hasn't sent my letter of recommendation!

I am applying for the Motion Picture Arts major which requires a separate application in which a personal statement, resume, and 3 letters of recommendation are needed. It's all done electronically and the first 2 teachers have already sent in the recs, but the last one hasn't yet. I emailed her Friday and she responded the next day and said she was ill and would try to send the rec as soon as possible, but its the day of the application deadline and still I haven't seen anything of hers. I called FSU MPA and they said without the last rec my application can't even be sent. I don't know what to do. Any advice?

Take a deep breath and hope everything works out. There’s nothing you can do about it, so there’s no point in wasting your time worrying. If you can’t control it, don’t worry about it.

Not in anyway to sound like a “parent”, but waiting for the last minute was not exactly your best move. Putting that aside, I truly believe that if your application really warrants acceptance based upon the information already submitted, I am sure that FSU will work with you and help you.
Good Luck !

^I didn’t necessarily wait till the last minute, I gave her ample enough time to have them written and sent in. About 2 weeks. I reminded her several times in person and by email but apparently there was some sort of miscommunication, apparently she’s ill at the moment. I don’t want to badger her but time is running out. And unfortunately, without a third recommendation I won’t even be able to send my application in.

^
Sorry, just trying to help

drive to her house, knock on the door, and make her send it !! This is your life - be assertive !!

She sent me an email a couple of hours ago telling me she couldn’t send in my rec because she didn’t have the correct letterhead to scan it on to FSU. She said she’d ask them if she could send it to them tomorrow, but I doubt anything will come from that call. I’d be more upset if FSU’s Film School were my top choice but it really isn’t, though it would have been the most economically feasible. . .

@daviddj It’s OK. I’m just so upset right now. All that prep work for nothing.

@dscads11 LOL. I should have, shouldn’t I.

Its ok everything happens for a reason and im sure youll end up fine! GOOD LUCK!

Is it possible to get another teacher to do it? If you explain your situation, they might be willing to help you, even if it’s at the last minute.

My teacher spoke to FSU and they allowed her to send it in today. Really glad she was able to do that. :)

WITHOUT a doubt, I know that I am going to get flamed but,
Why is FSU permitting late submission of documentation for
consideration for admissions if the official policy is not to accept any
late submission past the October 17 deadline. From what I read on the official FSU admission web site, ANY late submission after October 17 will be automatically forwarded to the next admission cycle period. If this is the case, then can I then request consideration of my October 20 SAT results for admission purposes for this cycle period ?

Uh, I’m pretty sure that you can in fact use any test scores that are after the deadline but before the decision date, as long as you already have a set of scores on file.

I’m pretty sure that when I was applying to FSU, I was able to use my October test scores. In fact, I’m sure of it, since I remember having to register for the October dates as I was ill and missed the June one.

FSU has always required the application, essay and resume to be in by the deadline, with at least one set of scores in. NO EXCEPTION. They have historically allowed later tests scores to be added (specifically October scores for the December notification), and have given wiggle room for transcripts, letters of rec, school/guidance counselor reports as these are often out of a student’s control.

The letter of recommendation she is referring to is for a specific degree program, not general admission. Her application for admission to FSU had to be completed by Oct. 17th. She is applying for a specific major which requires an additional application. The department she is applying to agreed to take the letter one day late because of the circumstances, not the office of admission. She submitted two separate applications one for admission to FSU and another for admission to the film program. An applicant can be accepted to FSU, but declined admission into a specific degree program. These are two different processes.
