My Top Schools are Milton, Choate and Andover.. help with SSAT scores?!?

I just did the official SSAT book practice test #1 (UL). My overall percentile is 89% and I am doing the test in 10 weeks. Do you think that if I work everyday and do a test every fortnight (2 weeks) that I have a good chance of a high score? Help greatly appreciated with average range for scores from my schools of choice :)

An 89% is a high score, I would say, and if you get that on the real thing, you are in the running for all of those schools. I suspected that yes, if you work on it every day, you should be able to get your score up a few percentiles, but know that that is pretty good right now, if you are accurate in your percentiles.

Thanks for your comments and help. Any other help would be greatly appreciated

Would you board at Milton? It's easier to get in as a boarder. I know a girl who got in with an 89, though their average is higher.

I plan to board at any of the schools I am accepted at.

sorry, just bumping this lol

Hey, WHOA, have I responded to this yet?

I'm a freshman at Choate!! IF you have questions. :D I'd be happy to answer.

There are a lot of people here who don't get in with high percentages (I had 97 and was waitlisted at first) and people who also had SSATs in the 80s. It's not the most important part of the application, so do the best you can, but definitely don't stress about it.

hey, thanks for that. i wasn't sure about what role it played in my app.

Yeah, no prob. :) Ask if you have questions.

Hey OP,

If this thread is still live, tell us: how are you prepping?

(does OP mean operator? if so then that's me right? oh well i will answer anyway)

i am using the princeton review and kaplan's as well as the official ssat book. i do approx. 3 study sessions a week and about 75-100 words per week (i dont use the vocab section of study sessions, i go at my own pace). then i do a practice test once every fortnight :). a quick look at choate's website and cc, keeps me motivated :). i know this sounds like a lot but it isn't really that bad.

I'm a new junior this year at milton and it's amazing.
Really, dont worry about your scores. It really doesnt factor in THAT much.
I got a 94 overall, and did very poorly on one section. Another new junior said she got a 95 but also did extremely horrible in a section. I think Milton's average is a 90, so I really wouldnt worry about it AT ALL.

thanks msu

avg. SSAT percentiles:

Andover 93%ile
Milton 88%ile
Choate not listed in my source but likely 87-90%ile, I'd guess

As other posters have said, you're doing great. :) Don't be stressed, and good luck!

thanks so much guys. i am thinking of switching from andover to loomis. i know i shouldn't think of loomis as a safety, im thinking of it more as an easier reach.

^^Why switch from Andover to Loomis? Because of SSAT scores or posted averages???

Why not just add Loomis, instead of removing Andover for it?

hmm.. that's a good idea. but it is more that i am not sure how much i want to go to andover and i am pretty sure i would be comfortable at loomis. andover doesn't seem to have what i am looking for in my bs experience.

omg… i am applying to choate… and idk how to study for vocab… did you get in to any of the schools??? I am so stressed out… wish me luck!!!

dont worry about the SSAT. an 89% is a great score. if you get that on the real SSAT you’ll be fine.
