myBama?

I just finished the online application and want to complete the scholarship/honors applications. However, to do this I need a myBama account. I can’t register myself or use the PIN from my application. Do I need to be accepted before I receive this information, or am I missing something?

Thank you.

If I remember correctly, I just used my social security number and it let me go ahead. I haven’t been accepted yet and I can access everything, so I’m pretty sure all you need is your identification information.

I think you might have to wait until Monday though if you just submitted it.

Yeah, that’s the only thing I could think of. I appreciate the help.

OG-J,

Usually a person can’t logon to mybama right after applying. Often, you have to wait for the follow-up email which gives you logon info. (But, do try what Dnerd suggests and see if it works  )

However, since the school is closed until Monday, and there is a Dec 1st deadline to apply for scholarships, the school understands that students will not receive their emails in time, so it is allowing applicants to submit the scholarship application a day or two late. So, your email with logon info should come on Nov 30th or Dec 1st. Submit it ASAP :)

Also, send an email to scholarships@ua.edu and tell them that you did apply to Alabama on Nov 26th, but you can’t apply for scholarships until you can log into MyBama.

BTW…you can’t apply to Honors until you’re accepted, but you need to apply for scholarships ASAP - as soon as you’re able to logon to MyBama. Keep an eye out for that email. :)

Let us know what happens. :)

The SSN log-in won’t go through. I’ll just do what you suggested. Thanks for the prompt response! I’m really excited about UA after looking at some pictures/videos. I’ll be sure to watch the game tomorrow and visit the campus soon.

Also, when is the Honors College deadline?

Thanks again.

Honors College deadlines… (the first two programs admit by stats)

University Honors Program (UHP) Feb 1 (short 1 paragraph essay about yourself)

International Honors Program (IHP) Feb 1 (short 1 paragraph essay)

Computer-Based Honors Program (CBHP) Jan 5 (admittance is competitive, so essay’s content is important and resume req’d)

University Fellows Experience (UFE) Dec 4 (admittance is competitive, 2 essays - content important)

However, if you want to apply to UFE, and you just applied to UA, you need to contact Mrs. Wellon Bridgers at wellonlbridgers@ua.edu and tell her that you’ve just applied to UA and want to apply to UFE. Tell her your stats. She’ll probably email the 2 essay prompts to you while you wait for your formal UFE invite package to come in the mail. For those who are applying now, the deadline will be extended if you ask.

BTW…you will be getting an invite to Honors Capstone Day which is held on the weekend of MLK’s birthday. That is a good day to come if you can. Otherwise, try to visit on a day that the school is open, but you have off (or is a day that you can miss). Some OOS students try to visit the campus on a Monday morning, so that they can arrive on Sunday, visit on Monday, and then leave later that same day.

Here’s a link to UA campus touring tips. (Please note in the first post, I didn’t do some of the links correctly, so it will read oddly. I added the links in at post #3 )

Which state are you from? :)

:)

I’m from Arizona. I qualify for the Collegiate scholarship, but that doesn’t go very far with an OOS tuition rate. Does UA offer higher scholarships for current students with high GPAs, extensive school involvement, etc? I really don’t want to carry around a lot of debt after graduation.

Also, which Honors College dorm is best? What type of room (single, double, quad…) do most students prefer?

Again, thanks for all the help. It’s refreshing to find a CC forum that’s not dead.

The Honors rooms are all private (each student has his/her own room), but are in suites of singles, doubles and quads.

The majority of the suites are 4 bedroom suites. The prices go up as doubles and single room suites. Since you’re concerned about college costs, you should choose a quad. I think having a 4 bedroom suite is better, because then you have 3 other opportunities for friendships.

As for scholarships, what is your major? You can also qualify for additional scholarships that way. You may even get awarded one along with your other.

What are your stats? ACT or SAT (M + CR) and GPA?

Have you also applied to the Honors College?

GPA: 4.06 weighted, 3.88 unweighted
Very rigorous course load with many AP/Honors classes at a well-respected high school.
ACT: Composite of 28 with an 8 on the essay
SAT II: 770 on US History (probably the only one worth sending, if at all)

I have not applied to the Honors College yet, as myBama is still malfunctioning. I’ve sent emails to both undergraduate admissions and the scholarship administrator.

Edit: AP scores are also very solid.

I’m confused. I know that you applied to the school, but have you already submitted the scholarship app?

If you’re having problems with that… Have you received your email with logon info and CWID# (College-Wide ID). If not, that could be the problem.

Someone else was having problems with MyBama earlier, so maybe some kind of update is going on.

What did you put down as your **major **for application?

Sorry, I’m majoring in Political Science.

I have not been able to apply for scholarships yet. That is only accessible via myBama from what I understand. I’ve tried just about everything, so I think I’ll wait until Monday.

UA has been having a lot of website system updates this semester. I’m betting it’s a type of mybama update for new students, because mybama is working for me. By Monday the problem should be fixed, I hope.

All the honors dorms are relatively the same and it’s just a matter of personal preference which building one chooses. OOS tuition will not be cheap, but if you can afford it, all the best to you. I haven’t met anyone from Arizona yet at UA. It would be interesting to learn why you became interested in UA.

All right, I finally got the email and submitted the scholarship application without any problems. I’m glad I’m not late!

I found UA by looking at a list of the best public universities in the country. I really like the campus, and academics seem strong. A great football team is always a draw too.

SEA_tide…

I’ve met a few students from Arizona at UA, and they told me that they wanted to go OOS to a more traditional-looking campus where the weather wasn’t too cold and not as hot as AZ.

OG-J … I’m glad that you got the email and were able to submit. I was wondering if you had gotten that.

Great answer. Glad you were able to submit the scholarship application. Roll Tide!

Does anyone know if the website specifically explains that after applying to UA, the student must wait a few days for the email for logon info to apply for scholarships? This seems to be confusing to people, so perhaps the info needs to be stated more clearly.

My daughter just applied to Bama today. This thread has me a little confused about the honors college. From what I am reading on the school website, if you qualify, there’s no need to apply: [Incoming students with a 28 ACT or 1250 SAT will be automatically accepted to the Honors College upon submission of their applications. Students will be notified of their acceptance via mail.] My daughter meets the reqs so I want to be sure we’re not missing something. Or, is the application only necessary for candidates who wish to apply but who don’t meet the minimum stats? Also, does anyone know about scholarships if she is automatically accepted into the Honors College? Or do we need to search them out online and apply separately for those as well? We are from NJ (which you could probably tell from my screen name lol), but I’m not sure if that makes any difference.

Your daughter still needs to apply for the honors programs she wishes to be a part of and NEEDS TO fill out the scholarship application if she wants a scholarship from UA. The deadline for the scholarship application is Dec 1, but since she just applied, UA may be extending this deadline. Look around at the other threads here and call UA to make sure she can fill out the scholarship application and get the merit scholarship she qualifies for. UA will need SAT/ACT scores and a hs transcript, along with the scholarship application. The phone number is 1-800-933-BAMA.

I know of quite a few people from New Jersey at Bama who love it. If you haven’t had a chance to visit campus yet, I highly encourage you to do so. Roll Tide!

*From what I am reading on the school website, if you qualify, there’s no need to apply: [Incoming students with a 28 ACT or 1250 SAT will be automatically accepted to the Honors College upon submission of their applications. *

That sentence on the webpage needs to be clarified…it SHOULD say…“will be automatically accepted to the Honors College upon submission of their Honors College applications.”

The way it’s currently written, it can be mistakenly inferred that the “application” is the school application.

The “automatic” part means is that students who have the stats are admitted after apply to UHP and/or IHP. UHP and IHP admit by stats. It’s not like some colleges where you can have the stats, but still not get selected to join.

SEA_tide is right. If you’re applying to the school this weekend, UA will extend the scholarship app deadline since you won’t have rec’d the follow-up email by Dec 1st. (that email will provide log-on info to get into MyBama to apply for scholarships). :)

But, as a “back up,” I would send a short email to scholarships@ua.edu and just mention that you applied to the school this weekend and are waiting for the email with log-on info so that you can apply for scholarships. The note can be very short.
