Myths about Rice

Hi incoming freshmen,

This seems irrelevant, but is actually extraordinarily important: I wanted to tell you to be aware of myths about Rice. As in any other famous place, there are a plenty of myths, superstitions, incorrect trivia, and other misinformation asociated with the place. One of the most prominent examples is about trees at campus. We have a wonderful, beautiful and spacious campus with all kinds of trees, bushes, flowers etc. Now there are some evil but indigenous people who are not particularly fond of nature and beauty, but rather of numbers and sizes. It is known that Rice doesn't have a particularly big student body, but we are all be proud of it - this is a distinguishing feature of an elite university.

Now in their evil minds, those evil people have concoted an outrageously misleading idea. They said that there are MORE TREES AT CAMPUS THAN STUDENTS!! May I tell you that this is just blatantly wrong and incorrent. There are around 4600 students at Rice, while there are only about 4000 trees on campus! This can be checked with campus falicities people. It is indeed true that graduate students were included in the number above, but, so what, they are also students.

Have a nice day :)
Tobi

Don't let this mislead you, though. There are many many many trees on campus. The trees are dense in certain areas which is amazing. Out at west campus at the stadium and parking lots, there are less trees. But since the east half of campus has most of the trees, the east half is really beautiful.

Trees are good. what would the evil indigenous people rather have? telephone poles?

FYI: Not that long ago, the "TREES > STUDENTS" statement was FACT... but the mythos doesn't always keep up with the admissions dept.

who cares. if you go to rice you will be thankfull for the number of trees

Especially if you take summer classes.
