Name on SAT differs from College Applications

When my parents signed me up for high school they put my Christianized name instead of the name on my passport/birth certificate. Don't ask me why they did this, they believed church documents were official. As a result, all my report cards have the name John-Doe Smith for example. My attendance records have me as John-Doe Smith. However, when I signed up for the SAT I signed up as John Smith omitting the Doe. I did this not knowing I could not simply go back and edit my name. However, I am going to be applying to colleges soon and I am going to apply as John Doe Smith because my transcript is under that name. I have contacted the College Board and they refused to change the name because I do not have the sufficient documents to change my name on the account. This is because I am an undocumented student. When I send my scores will colleges know that I am the same person?

Does your Passport say John Smith ?

No passport.

I have a similar issue that the name on my Collegeboard account and passport is different from the name on my school transcripts. But when I emailed a few universities, they said that it wouldn’t be a problem because my passport and Collegeboard names are the same. All I have to do is email them again, after I apply and they’ll match the documents. Your problem is slightly bigger. Just email the universities that you’re applying to and explain the problem clearly.

You said passport/birth certificate, but then you say no passport and undocumented.

Why not contact the high school to put your alternative name on your records as well? That is probably easier than having the College Board “correct” their records, when you seem to indicate the high school had it wrong, not the College Board.
