What are the names of colleges that are good for majoring in journalism in the US?

Northwestern comes to mind.

The top undergraduate journalism programs are Northwestern, Univ of Missouri-Columbia, SYracuse, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Indiana University-Bloomington.

Ohio University also has an excellent journalism program.

Typically, the top 3 schools for UG journalism are Northwestern (Medill), Syracuse (Newhouse), and UMissouri-Columbia. Remember, though, not all great journalists went to a journalism school: Halberstam went to Harvard, and Tom Friedman went to Brandeis, for example. Neither of them attended a formal journalism school, but they got where they were and are, respectively, because of experience and quality of writing.

The best of the best are Northwestern, Syracuse, and Mizzou (Missouri).

UNC Chapel Hill is also a big name. Ohio U is fairly well known. Basically what the others have said.

As for the benefits of attending a top journalism school....

It is true that you don't have to major in journalism to become a journalist, but it's strongly recommended to have at least a journalism minor or double-major. Journalistic writing is completely unique from other types of writing, so it's important to learn journalistic style early. Attending a big-name school in the journalism world can be helpful in getting top jobs and internships.

Columbia, NY has a fabulous journalism school too. Although officially I think its graduate, undergraduates take courses, and the speakers and events are incredible.

western new england specifically specializes in hispanic journalism. try that one!
