Oh my God...what did your friend do??? Get caught with the Supe's daughter??

He had one of those faces that was perpetually set in a bit of a smirk. Ticked off the upperclassmen to no end. They thought he was a wiseguy.

He won.

Hahaha i wonder what he's doing now. . .

i might have a bit of a problem with the face concept....

well, only one way to find out.

Last I heard, he went to Georgetown and was getting straight A's.

Remember that. A C at USNA (or any service academy) is the equivalent of a B or A almost anywhere else (and yes, I'd even throw MIT into that. They don't have all the secondary stuff to deal with).

...and they have awesome computers to tinker around with all day

I just got The Naval Academy Candidate Handbook in the mail. It is really good, i got it two hours ago and i just finished it. From the descriptions, it seems that I will definately have the upper hand. What really ticks me off though is that a lot of people at my school make fun of me because i got into "the prep school", if they only knew. . . . .

Son, I put up with an entire year of teasing and harassment at the hands of my commie-pinko-leftist idiot classmates. I was the first person in the entire history of my school to actually get into a Service Academy.

"War monger". "Baby killer". The whole works. It got even worse when part of our Senior Trip was a stop at Annapolis to catch a Navy football game.

So what did I do? I rammed it down their throats by having my B&G Officer show up to graduation (he came in Full Dress Whites, which is pretty impressive when you're a USMC Warrant Officer) and present me with my appointment to NAPS. Then, 9 years later, I did it again when I showed up to my HS reunion in uniform and with my ring and stole the show. Even their former girlfriends were hovering around me like satellites.

Oh, and the leader of that little leftist clique is now a drug addict. Revenge is sweet.

Take that teasing as practice for the real thing, and turn it to your advantage.

Yeah, i guess i'd better suck it up. Thanks.

man, let me tell ya, that Candidate Handbook owns.

oh, and for the teasing...patience is a virtue, my radio-host friend.

Let them tease. If they can't appreciate what you are aspiring to do and the sacrifices you are willing to make for THEIR sake, then they are beneath contempt and not to be fretted over. You're better than them, and the hysterical thing is that THEY know it.

Now go follow your dream and ACHIEVE it!

You will become part of a family that will stand by you through thick and thin, often even in spite of real differences that would break other relationships.

We share a bond they can only dream of having. When you walk through an airport, you see a million "University of (fill in the blank)" shirts, and you'll notice that little if anything is shared between them. You bump into a USNA shirt, and there is an instant bond, and more than once I've had alumni or parents/siblings of alumni walk up to say hello. It's a great feeling.

Never quit.

Amen.

you know....we're completely dominating this thread....just some commentary.

i really like what you said, though. motivated me. im serious.

Maybe the other folks are just reading along.

I'm happy that I'm getting through, especially when it comes to your current dweeb classmates. Very few things tick me off more than what they're doing, and I know exactly what you're going through because I went through it, too.

Just an aside. Some of what I may say may come across a bit too gung-ho, and maybe that's true, but it's part of having been through it and realizing that despite the supernatural proportions the place (USNA or NAPS) tends to take on during the application process, the fact remains that it CAN be done, so long as you WANT it.

There is a school of thought that claims that leadership is the art of getting people to do things they don't want to do. I disagree. In my opinion, leadership is getting people to WANT to do what they NEED to do, and to do it well.

If I can help any candidates do that, I view it as the least I can do to pay back the institutions I owe so much to (including a good bit of my crackpot insanity, but that's for another thread. Maybe a therapy forum?).

It's ok, its my thread. Anyway, what is sad is that i introduced four of the kids to the academy and two got in.

What's sad about that? I'd be damned proud!

they're the ones joking me

That's different. They're giving you flak just like my roommate did. He was smart enough to get in on the first try, etc., etc....

That's all in good fun. What I went through in HS was NOT.

And people wonder why I get bent out of shape by the comments being made in the public discourse these days!

These guys are athletes who play good enough to get in. The have no CLUE as to the s*** i went through to get in. And this is not in good fun. I don't know how these guys got in, one of them is a consistent drinker and the other prides himself on cigars. Anyway, i'm going to quit whining.

Rosa

at least you're in. sit back and watch the show.

true, this will be fun. Also, i have some unconfirmed reports that I-day for NAPSters is on July 28. If anyone out there knows, then please post.
