NASA Sharp

How hard is it to get into NASA Sharp?

You get paid, right? Can someone that has done it, or know enough about this program please describe it more in detail?

Thanks in advance.

bump bump bump

3 of my friends i think applied to it (we live in orlando). Yes, the thing is paid. Of the three, all are in IB program, similar GPA's, but only one seems ivy-headed, and she was the only one who got in. That's pretty much all i know bout it, if it even is the same program.

yeah im in SHARP in the Johnson Space Center field installation. i got through with 14 other people out of about 250 applicants. i think that this was one of the more competitive positions since so many people living in the houston area want to goto JSC because tahts where Mission Control is(I actually work in the MCC building).

basically you are paired up with a mentor and you do a project or help them out with the things that they are working on.
for example i am working on a webpage for the main project that she is working on.

i get paid $8.10 an hour and work for 8 weeks full time. Its pretty rewarding when you think about the experiences that you gain, especially for me who had never held a real job before.

anything else you wanna know?

are canadians eligible for this program?

No, I'm pretty sure its US citizens only. It seems like there are lots of positions open, so its not as selective (as some other programs like RSI). Does anyone know for sure?

it is for US citizens only and what do you mean it is not selective, sentient?

As in its not that hard to get in, at least as far as I've heard... Several of my friends applied and they got in. And I asked a couple my friends about it and what it was like (since I'm considering going next year), and they said it seemed pretty easy to get in and that it was a good experience.

Don't take it the wrong way. I'm not trying to discredit it or anything, I'm just going on what I heard, which could be wrong - which is why I was asking.

damn it. I hate being canadian. I don't even think we're eligible for rsi. :(

I thought internationals were eligible for RSI o_O.

not canada apparently. I don't know, i'm going to inquire into it. crosses fingers

yeah i guess since most places dont have as big a engineering background as the houston area does with JSC its not as competitive...

Ya u gotta be that top percentage. I recomment trying for other interships. A lot of them actually pay more. Even volenteering for a company as an apprentice or soemthing looks good.

3.941 GPA, Medical Magnet school, URM (Hispanic), what else is good? I might have like 2nd in category for the intel regional sci fair thingy, and like 4th grand prize for Junior academy. Am I competitive?
