Does anyone know what the cutoff for national achievement is?

low 190s.

Some National Achievement Finalists last year had 193s.

It depends in different states, but to be recognized by NA, at a least a 170-180. Semifinalist, Middle 180s, and I don't know about finalist yet, because...well I don't know. I got a 202 and I'm a semifinalist, but I don't know about finalist. Apparently, the finalist standing has nothing to do with your psat score and everything to do with you sat score, you grades, ecs, and essay.

it depends on state, i had 193 and i was just a referred scholar..i live in massachusetts

Go the the bookstore, the latest cutoff's for each state is in the princeton review PSAT prep book. I have it, pm me with your state and I can tell you.

Bah!...Some achievement those minorities need to make...if only I were a minority...

Hey, I'm taking the PSAT this year (I'll be a junior) and I was wondering how difficult it is to be recognized by National Achievement. Can anyone tell me what scores I would need to be considered for the National Achievement Outstanding Participant Award (a girl at my school last year got this and I was curious). By the way, I'm from South Carolina so could anyone tell me the cutoff scores for National Achievement recognition, commendation, etc.? Thanks!

hm...logisticswizard...I think that hurt a bit. I think people around here should be a bit more conscious of others.

Anyway, blazer, I'd say about 170 to be recognized. I don't live in SC but only places like MA and NY require 200s to be recognized. Its still competitive, but you know...

Or think about it like this: the PSAT is a preSAT, so if you add a 0 it should be around your score. Look on the collegeboard because they publish the actually stats for the SAT and you can find out what the average is for Blacks in South Carolina. I'd say try to go 800 or more points than the average, because they choose like...the highest 16000 scores all over...check the site, don't quote me.

Aim high! I'm talking 220s :D but around a 170-175 to at least be recognized. From what I know, you at least want to be a semi finalist, which might be in the 190s. The thing is, they don't actually publish the cutoffs like they do for National Merit, so it's mostly just speculation. I hope that helped.

I thought the cut off was 213 in most states?

This is the National Achievement Scholarship Program, not the National Merit Scholarship Program. You're talking about the latter.

what's the national achievement scholarship program?

The National Achievement® Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American high school students. Black students may enter both the National Achievement Program and the National Merit® Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) and meeting other published requirements for participation. The two annual programs are conducted concurrently but operated and funded separately. A student's standing is determined independently in each program. Black American students can qualify for recognition and be honored as Scholars in both the National Merit Program and the National Achievement Program, but can receive only one monetary award from NMSC.
