National AP Scholar (as a senior)

Is there any point to getting this? Besides personal satisfaction haha

No. 10char

nope, only if you're a junior, which is a big deal, because only around 50-100 juniors get it per state (on average)

Wait! So does it actually help in admissions for a junior?

I didn't think it was a big deal. You say only 50-100 juniors per state? Woohoo! (Sorry.)

It depends on the context of your school. If you go to a school with 15+ APs, it's not impressive if you get National AP Scholar by Junior year. However, if you go to a school with ~5-8 or less APs, then it is impressive (although not OMG AMAZING HOOK impressive like other awards).

There is no point to ap tests in general except to get college credit.

There were only 10 kids that got it in my state as a junior (including me :) )

So I was curious if the awards cumulative or not. For example, if you have 3 AP's after junior year and received 2007 AP Scholar designation and take 3 more senior year, do they designate you as 2008 AP Scholar or give you AP Scholar with Distinction (cumulative).

I called College Board and they said the awards are cumulative and that new awards will be sent out in September, in our case AP Scholar with Distinction.

yea , they are cumulative

but it's in your best interest to put down the best award you've earned on your college app

I decided I want to take the tests to see how well I've mastered the material. I'm taking up to 8 for my Senior year because I'm interested in the subjects and I think it would be a cool accomplishment. It is a little sad that I won't be able to put in National Scholar on my application. But I get the credit.

^ Be careful though. Many schools only offer a limited amount of credit from AP exams. Many schools also have placement exams.
