National College Match - 2009-2010

@Ju_liaa, tomjonesistheman: My father’s been a teacher for 13 years or so, so I know for a fact that teachers and counselors generally start prepping (at the earliest) about a week before school starts. That means the EARLIEST you should expect a reply would be a few days before school starts. Also, if they have a teacher only prep day at your school before the beginning of the semester, drop by and talk to your teachers. They’ll probably have a lot more time to talk to you then, so its a win-win situation. Call your school and ask about a pupil-free date.
I know this is the most stressful time to be in, but be happy you get to get it over with for the most part much earlier.

@GetToCollege: Yep, I feel for you, there is definitely a summer crunch going on here!
@Ju_liaa: I believe Wharton is an entirely different program, so I can’t tell you for sure, but I’m quite positive you’d need to apply separately for Wharton in the RD process.

@tomjonesistheman: Your essay should speak even more about you. Hopefully the CPS program has opened new opportunities for you, so add that into the essay. As Ju_liaa said, you should probably create a new essay in order to really convey your answer to QB’s question. Reusing an essay in order to minimize your workload can also minimize your chances, so is it really worth it?

Hello!
This thread helped me a lot when I was stuck on a question

But, I have two questions,

I took 2 ACT’s so far, and I thought “since Rice looks at all the scores, I guess I will put all my scores.”

Is this a bad idea?

and if I can not remove one test score, do I have to send all my score reports to schools?

Thanks :)

P.S. Hopefully, my question made sense :(

Guys does anyone know any Questies who skipped the Match process all together and still got in?

And are you guys sending in resumes if you’re doing match? I think i have to just because i already have one and it would be a total waste XD

Julia, I wouldn’t send in a resume - if you only had the common app., then possibly, but you have so many essays for the QB app that I think a resume is pointless and redundant.

Need an advice…

Is this too forward and demanding?? for the record, I am actually very comfortable with this teacher and I am never that formal with her, so I feel as though this email could actually be counterproductive and make her feel uncomfortable… should I just ask her to write me a recommendation and say nothing else?

Powerbomb: You are so right about the resume. Screw it.

And do you wanna know what i wrote to my recomenders 2 days ago? Here it is:

As you know from last year i told you that i was doing a separate application then most kids, which requires me to have recommendations way early. The application just came out last night and i wanted to let you know as soon as possible because the deadline for it is September 30th, and school doesn’t start till the 10th this year. The application requires that i send all of my recommendations, including yours. It would be great to have it at least 5 days before the 30th, because this is one of those things that i can’t procrastinate on XD. I hope i’ve given you enough time to do this and i hope even more that you get this email soon!

Thank you very much.

So are you veing too straight forward? Not at all. You have to be a go getter when it comes to this because no one around you is going to work harder to achieve this goal then you are. And if you’ve gotten along wiht your recomenders since you’ve known them, then don’t be so shy! I think you’re even saying too much. The gist of my email is pratically GET ME MY RECOM ASAP XD

Now, some schools also ask that you re-submit recommendations, like for the Common App or Columbia App.

Are you guys going to simultaneously ask your teachers for these? Is 3 recommendations too much for a teacher to handle at once?

I would only need 3 total: QB App, Common App, Columbia App. That would cover everything for me.

Oh yeah - can the recommendation for the common app and the QB app be the same? I would hate to ask the same teacher to write 2 recommendations saying different things…

flyingllama - That’s a short list. Lucky you!

powerbomb: no :frowning: unfortunately they’ll have to write multiple Recs depending on what schools you’re applying to

GetToCollege: really? I though mine was longer than usual haha

Can’t the recommender just substitute the name of the school for each school?

well they have to use different forms

but if the forms are similar enough, they could just copy/paste

Gotcha. Thanks.

NOOOOO they have to do different ones? That is really going to suck.

Two questions:

 1. If you are selected as a QB finalist, do my recommenders have to fill out the common app one in addition to the QB one?
 2. The FAQs page for Princeton at the QB site says that finalists have to submit “two teacher reference letters.” They don’t actually mean “letters” do they? They just mean the recommendation forms and short answers?

^ I think they mean letters ??

You really have to read the requirements for EACH school - I think it’s a good idea to fit the recs (and the teachers) to the school ie. Princeton ‘fit’ very different than Stanford ‘fit’ - & some schools need extra essays & recs.

QB Match first round is such a far reach I’m psyching myself for QB round 2 - Regular Decision - also doing the apps for my ‘safeties’ and schools that are not QB partners for Regular Decision.

Looking back over the mess on my desk I realized that the CPS information did get transferred onto the match application, including the essay. They put it under the wrong prompt however, so I just deleted it.
