National College Match - 2009-2010

ok thanks guys. @Ju_liaa, do you mean the noncustodial thing that’s part of that whole CCS profile? Some schools require it and I believe you complete it when you do the rest of the specific stuff for the specific schools. The collegeboard site said that individual schools have to be contacted in regards to obtaining a waiver. I emailed Stanford cause I haven’t seen my dad in 10 years and we don’t know where he is, but I haven’t gotten a response from them yet.

@isjny09: So then i dont need to submit it for the actual Questbride app? Because at the moment i only have my mom’s income up but for my dad it says $0

Guys if you’re a finalist you cant apply early to any schools?

You can apply Early to MIT or Caltech if you are a Finalist but not Matched. Look on the college specific requirements on the Questbridge website.

I’m not 100% sure though, can anyone confirm this?

If you’re a finalist and are matched, can you apply early to non quest schools throught common app?

And if you’re a finalist but arent matched, can you do the same?

If I wrote about something in my biographical essay, should I not write about it in essay #2? It’s really significant and has really changed me a lot, but I don’t know if I should repeat.

@natim1: If i were you i would just make a big point about it in my biographical essay, but i wouldn’t repeat it. Us poor kids (XD i put that in my own words if you couldnt tell) have really interesting lives, and they want to know about every aspect of your personal experience. If you feel that you have to mention it again however, i would just make a quick reference.

You’ll find out on the 1st of December if you are matched. Any school with an early app deadline after that is fair game - if there are any.

If you are chosen as a finalist and then matched with a binding school you must attend that school. If accepted to multiple binding schools you ranked, the highest ranked one is the one you must attend.

Obviously if you are matched with a non-binding school you can make a choice whether to accept or not.

You cannot apply ED until December 1st. Many schools have ED II into January. Check each school’s website.

Hope this helps!

Oh and I had to fill out a non-custodial parent waiver as well. There was a form for that on the QB website last year. I used that, along with the supporting documentation, to submit to several schools that required it once I applied RD to them.

Should I submit the same essay for questbridge as common app? Or should I write completely different ones?

@tsprite: Thanks for the info! Does that mean that i need to send it with the app though? Like for them to consider me for finalist do they need to have it? Or do i not worry about it unless i become a finalist?

@natim1: You can submit the same essay.

I know I CAN submit the same essays, but do you think it’s a good idea to?

Well on the QB site is says that they encourage you to because they alreayd know that the QB app + CommonApp is a lot of work.

@alexandrafitzmor: Thanks for the help, the QuestBrigde Facebook community really helped. Also, I have a question about the match process, it seems very confusing at times. When you are selected as a finalist on Oct 23rd, are you immediately notified if you’ve been matched to any colleges, or is there a waiting period between being selected and notification?

@Mare_Crisium: No way are you notified of a match when they tell you if you’re a finalist because you have separate deadlines for that stuff. Becoming a finalist is only the first step.

I suggest that you log onto your application and take the Match Process mini-course. It’s required anyways so why not do it now?

I’m almost done with the actual app itself…now to hunt down my teachers and counselors for recs…

@Ju_liaa: Thanks. I didn’t think so, but the official FAQ didn’t make that too clear. I’ve finished most of the Application and i’m getting started on the recommendations as well. For the counselor recommendations, do they fill out a specific recommendation similar to the teachers, or is their main duty to fill out the SSR and fax our transcripts? And if you are not selected as a finalist and choose to apply under ED then do you have to redo the recommendations, or can you send in the same ones used for QuestBridge?

Is a foreign language teacher considered a core subject teacher?

Okay, well im planning on applying to Yale SCEA BUT! im also planning to apply to the QB national prep scholarship which i cant do bc yale says that i cant apply to any programs that notify me of admission before jan 1.

so my question is…
should i do YALE SCEA or Questbridge? which one would it be easier to gget in with? and im not really wooried about app fee bc ill get a waiver siince im poor anyways…

heres my stats
i know im not the amazing yale applicant and the test scores KILL it but ill take my chances and apply bc i dont want to play the what if game 10 yrs down the road…

SHOULD I APPLY THRU QB OR JUST DO YALE SCEA?

^ Yes, it is.

When do we submit financial forms? Once we are notifed as finalists?

Ju-liaa - If named a finalist, you will need the non-custodial waiver form for the schools. As I recall, even CSS profile did not require it. However, don’t forget to start the process of your “documentation” so that is ready to go when you need to fill out the form and send them along. I was not matched so did not need to do so until applying RD.

natim1: I used my QB essay in my common app. Worked for me! :-)
