@hiilikeyoux3: The September ACT/October SAT. You don’t need to submit scores to become a finalist, although they say it is significantly harder to become one without scores. However, I think if you submit your test dates, and forward the scores you’ll be in time for that to be considered. Your GPA and other stats are quite good, no SAT score would probably benefit you.
Doing the application isn’t a total waste of time; QB will forward your applications for you in the RD round even if yo aren’t a finalist.

@driscol: All my sister’s teachers actually forwarded her a copy of their rec letter. Ask your teachers if you’ll get to see the letter, and if they say no, deal with it. The colleges will see that you didn’t waive the rights.

@alexandrafitzmor: that’s exactly what i said lol…“From what i have read, many aren’t accepted because they’ve spent so much time focusing on academics that they’ve totally neglected the other aspects of an attractive college applicant.”

Hey guys i finished my short answers but now i have a question. Did you actually just make lists where you could (favorite music, movies etc) or did you start with My favorite ___ are blah blah blah. cause i really think that although it makes it into a full sentence, it takes up too much word space.

I dunno…help.

Can I submit the Common Application multiple times? Because what if I am a finalist and rank non-binding schools, then I hvae to send in the Common App (for most schools, I know yale doesnt need it). But, then what if I don’t get matched? Do I resend my Common App or what?

I would also like to know if we can re-send the Common App. Although, more specifically, can I send the App to a slew of schools (Yale Penn Stanford) in November, and then send the same application to another bunch in December (Duke Dartmouth) without getting new recs? I’m worried that once I send it, the recs are gone and I need to re-ask my teachers for another set of schools. Or even worse, I would have to fill out a completely new application.

Well, I read that I can send the Commn App to certain schools at certain times, but I also read/am under the impression that after submitting to one school, you can no longer edit it—which is a problem if I decide to apply RD to a school that I was rejected by in the match process.

Hey guys could someone take a shot at my question? Those filling up the app right now that is…

My D says that you don’t have to necessarily have to list every song, movie, etc. that is your favorite. Just say for instance “I enjoy relaxing artists such as Jack Johnson and The Fray, but who can resist a bubbly show tune every now and then?”

That was only 23 words, yet it wasn’t a bland list. Hope that helps.

Ju_liaa, I was wondering the same thing. I was just gonna list them without restating the question, but I kinda like how GA2012MOM worded it. I am gonna do it whichever way suits me best, like if I want to mention quite a few books, for instance, then I’ll just list them, but if I want to mention only a couple of movies then I’ll try to word it more creatively like GA2012MOM said.

@Ju_liaa: Obviously you won’t be able to list your entire iTunes library in 30 words, so give a variety of artists if you like different genres of music, or give your favorite few if you only like a couple genres. As for books and movies, try to think of those that moved you the most or hold the best memories for you. GA2012MOM’s suggestion works as well.

Write them out in both formats, lists and short narrative. Then read them both, or have somebody else read them and see which you would rather read if you were an adcom. That should answer your question.

Could someone answer flyingllama’s question? I was wondering about that as well.

Essays are not fun…at all…
And I just emailed my teachers about writing recs for me. I hope they write outstanding ones…

@flyingllama: The Common App can be sent to a college only once; if your application is deferred to RD, the college will not need a second copy. They will use the one on file. If you’d like to send additional information to the college, you must contact them directly. You may send your applications in during every round, but only once per school with a limit of 20 schools. Did that answer your question?

For teacher recs, your teachers can save the responses they write for the QB Match, then submit it for Regular Decision recs. Am I right?

@flyingllama: Also, your recs won’t be gone, you can use the same ones.

@tomjonesistheman: You can re-use recommendation letters, most definitely.

Any suggestion for the ranking strategy? Will the colleges see the ranking or its for the Questbridge only.

The colleges have NO idea whether you have ranked them #1 or #8. Only QB knows this.
