National College Match - 2009-2010

^^^^^
They want the phone # to the HS.

I think Questbridge is only like 4 years old, so it’s relatively new. The number of applicants is increasing each year. =[

Questbridge helping the community has been alot longer than that tomjonesistheman.

Well i have the noticed that the number of applicants grows each year, but i’ve also noticed that regardless of the change in applicants about half still become finalists.

Ok now I’m a little bit confused about the whole teacher rec thing. So I talked to my two teachers who are writing me recs for Questbridge Match, and I gave them the instructions sheet. For Regular Decision (assuming I don’t get Matched, but get Finalist), would I have to give both of them stamped addressed envelopes and a teacher rec form for each college I’m applying to (plus the ones I forwarded from Match)? Thanks!

If you are adding additional colleges to RD after the Match, yes. Each school will have to have sealed teacher rec’s.

@tomjonesistheman: The QBCPS is considered an award, I’d put it down.

The website says that about 5% of last year’s match recipients had household incomes over $60,000. I’m eager to demonstrate academic achievement, but I cannot show any financial need at all - doesn’t even come close to $60,000. How much does this detract from finalist consideration? Thanks.

@Burdish: The QB program was created, and is meant for, those with great financial need. Students that had to make sacrifices in order to help out their families, in order to educate themselves. Unfortunately, if you don’t have any financial need at all, QB isn’t really a program for you.

hey guys, I have a couple questions I’m a little confused with the process…SO I’m filling out this application, I have everything except my teacher recs…but does questbridge need my high school transcript? How would questbridge or the colleges I apply to receive it?
-also, IF I don’t qualify as a finalist, what happens to my questbridge application? Can it be used for RD, or do I have to fill out a commonapp?
-also, IF I am selected as a finalist, what do I have to fill out to apply to the “top 8” list? (from oct 23, to Nov 1st) if it’s only the supplements, are all the supplements on the QB website? THANKS

Happy reading.

I don’t know where one of the teachers who’s doing my recommendations lives…and I can only imagine how awkward a conversation it would make for if I asked him.

Do I just wait until school starts and explain that Questbridge is requesting this information?

Edit: Or do we put in the School’s address/phone number?

Also should I just follow the normal rules for rounding up/down for the GPA.

So I guess a 3.55 UW would become a 3.6 and 4.17 W would become a 4.2?

Yeah i gots to know all the stuff terp just asked too…

@Terp2014: The school’s address and phone number, not the teacher’s. I believe you just round the GPA, yeah.

I’m also wondering about the recommendations. Are the recs for QB so specific that you can’t have your teacher write a general recommendation that you can use for other college applications? And even though I know that you can’t apply for early decision for any other colleges, are you allowed to apply for other scholarships during that time period? (For example, the Voice of Democracy audio essay) Or is applying for other scholarships also voided by the contract?

Wait so we can’t use the QB recommendation for other CommonApp schools? They have to write 2 different ones?

@Mare_Crisium: You don’t have to get extra recommendations for the common app. Ask your teachers, though, as they might feel more comfortable writing two- you never know. You are allowed to apply for other scholarships, as the contract is binding you to the early decision contract. Many students get more scholarship money than they need, and that is through applying to as many programs as possible.

A teacher rec is good for ALL schools and scholarships. Teachers will write them for you, and they will be saved on their computer. If you need an additional one down the line, they simply print it off. It is not a big deal. The address and phone number is for the school, yes, it is recommended that you waive the right to see it. If you are applying to outside schools during RD other than QB, simply address and stamp the envelopes to the school you are applying to, and give it to your teacher. They will send it to the school and it will become part of your “file.” Be proactive, and do things ahead of time. Don’t procrastinate!

Thanks everyone!

For the section where we enter our transcript info, do we really have to enter a letter grade (A, B, C, D) cause my school is on a 100 point scale?
