Ju_liaa: No.

Ugh that blows. What if i don’t become a finalist but am planning to do QB RD?

If you don’t become a finalist you can apply to ED/EA colleges. There are also EDII programs. If you become a finalist but aren’t matched, you will have time to participate in EDII.

Are there any QB programs for HS juniors? I know the College Match program is for seniors, right?

@ca87: The one for 2010 isn’t up yet but what you are asking for is this-

[QuestBridge College Prep Scholarship - Overview](http://questbridge.org/cps/info.php)

Yeah, I am looking for the answer to this question, too.

Sure! I’m happy to help. This was the part of the conversation you were looking for:

Mare_Crisium: I’m reading this part of the application process, and even though I knew this, on the website, it says “Please note that without test scores, it is significantly more challenging to become a finalist.” I have high marks in almost every other area, but unfourtunately, my SAT scores ended up in the mid 1800s range. Should I still submit my scores anyway? Or should I wait till I take the ACT’s in September and send my scores to the colleges while risking the chance of finalist status?

alexandrafitzmor: Do you think your score will be significantly higher when you retake it? Some students just don’t test well, and if that is the case for you, then I wouldn’t worry so much. If the other parts of your application are stellar, then you should be fine. Look at the statistics- the average score is 1940, which means there are probably plenty below and plenty above. Be very vocal about who you are as a person and you may very well get in.

Mare_Crisium: Well, i’ve taken the SAT and i’ve done practice scores for the ACT, so I think my scores would be significantly higher when I take the ACT, so I’m not worried about the fact that they will be raised, I just didnt want to submit scores that were lower than the norm and risk finalist status because of it. But thanks, i’m strong pretty much everywhere else, (EC’s, GPA, etc.) and i’m a good essay writer, so i’ll focus on those parts on my application and wish for the best.

alexandrafitzmor: Well, your plan B can be something like this: submit your higher ACT score to your choice of ED college with the QB essays pasted in the essay section. That way, you still recieve some of the benefit. I don’t think that will be your situation come October, bu tits always good to have a backup plan. Good luck!

… if you need me to clarify anything, just ask. : )

When does the College Prep Scholarship program begin accepting applications? I registered for an account but the only option is the College Match app.

What if you’re interested in a school that requires SATII’s and you haven’t taken them at all?

@alexandra and julia- thanks so much for your help, I just hope these teachers don’t blow me off and ruin it for me.

To anyone, a quickie question, I’m filling out some supplements on commonapp for the questbridge schools in case I become a finalist. Now, is it considered “early” decision for the college match?

One thing I find unfortunate about the QB application, like many others, is placing SAT scores on the application itself. I have only taken the SAT once and received a 2150 with a limited amount of study. Now with 14 CollegeBoard tests, I consistently score in the 2350-2400 range; therefore, when I take the test in October I know I will have a much better score and I am withholding the score from my application, since colleges will have access to that score if I forward the application.

I have heard that the QB Finalist acceptance is around 50%. Is this true? To what extent does not providing an SAT I score hinder a student’s chances?

@mifune: Your SAT scores are already well above the average. Although a higher score will boost your chances, it certainly won’t make or break your application. One must keep in mind that the committee has created a very holistic process to review applicants by. Statistically, the SATs are skewed against low-income applicants, so they would be blindsided by giving those scores too much weight. 50% is a relatively high number considering what the program offers; 60% are eventually given a place at a partner school.
My advice to you is to send in your “low” SAT I score. You can forward your additional score to colleges if you make finalist status. If not, then you’ll have nothing to worry about.

@ca87: CPS starts accepting applications in the spring. You’ll see a mad rush on CC in a few months. :)

@xtcf: I’m not entirely sure if this answers your question, but my understanding is that the QB program is essentially an ED program. Since being a QB finalist will be self-explanatory to the colleges, that won’t be the issue you would face- it might be an issue with the Common App servers. I would mark ED, but why don’t you try and find it in the FAQs or last years QB thread as well?

@kiterunner18: Fantastic question, and I’m so happy you’re asking it now! You’re going to have to take them on the October date, for which registration is due early September. Since this means only one shot at the test, you’re going to have to study hard and choose your tests very carefully. When you’re applying, you will enter the test date in the SATII box.

alexandrafitzmor, thank you for all the advice you provide! It is very helpful and informative!

You are always welcome. Keep us posted on any problems, questions, or successes you might have! :)

thanks alexandra…you seem to know EVERYTHING haha!

Is anyone filling out supplements/requirements for their ranking “list” of schools for the College Match yet?(if you end up being a finalist)

@xctf: Yeah i’ve already started the supplements for 3 of the schools because if QB doesn’t work out i’ll still be applying there.

xctf: Similar to what Ju_liaa said, I’d recommend doing those now if you’ve already gotten most of your application filled. Depending on how many college your applying to, it will take up a lot of your time. Whether you become a finalist or not, its still an advantage if you want to apply Early Decision, and if you are a finalist, you don’t find that out till mid-end of october, where you probably want to have everything filled out by then.
