national hispanic scholar cut-offs

My son received his letter as a Scholar Finalist today (CA 211). Do we need to prove his lineage, since our last name isn't a hispanic one? Will the school be notified of the award as well, or does he have to inform them?

if he received his letter, everything has already been taken care of!

I believe I qualify for Oklahoma (189, cutoff is 181), but I still haven't received my letter. What should I do?

How high is the required GPA? I have a 3.5 unweighted, and 4.3 weighted.

check with your counselor and see if they have gotten the paper work. a 3.5 should do it, make sure someone didn't drop the ball somewhere. My daughter got her letter Wenesday so you should be hearing something around now.

I checked with my counselor on 9-29, but she didn't receive anything for any National Hispanic Scholars. Will I receive a letter at my house, or are all the letters sent only to the schools?

Thanks,

i received a letter at my house, but you can email the NHRP office to find out if you qualified. check the collegeboard site for their email address.

We got the letter sent directly to the house, from Collegeboard. I suggest that you call or e-mail the NHRP yourself. They got back to me immediately this summer when I had a question. Here is the return address that came with the reply (It's the same as the one posted earlier, I believe):

well poo.

found my letter. i guess a 3.47 doesn't round to 3.5

Is the 3.5 requirement weighted or unweighted?

unweighted

I got mine last week for scholar. It just stinks that if I answered 2-3 more questions right I would probably be a semifinalist for national merit, and maybe have gotten a $2500 reward or or the $1000/yr scholarship UF offers. I got a 210 (72 CR, 69 M, 69 W) in Fl.

Finalist for this is good, right? I got a good enough score (193) but my school calculates GPA really weird, so I only got Honorable Mention Finalist...rather bummed out.

for illinois it's 193... too bad i got a 191

I'm a National Hispanic Scholar for Pennsylvania, but I guess the cutoff is really low because I got 191. What I wanna know is why I got a letter not when I was a junior but when I was a sophomore saying that I was a National Hispanic Scholar. I looked it up and I know that I'm only qualified as a junior, why would they send me one as a sophomore?

kelsey, that doesn't make any sense to me either, sounds like a technical glitch. Did you receive notification as a jr as well?

Okay, so I received a notification junior and SENIOR year, not sophomore, sorry about that. Because I definitely didn't take the PSAT in 2008 and they sent me a letter with @008 on it. So maybe it was just that I was continuing to be a Hispanic scholar, but I'm not sure. Anyone know how many hispanic scholars there are per year?

From the NHRP website:

National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP)

"The National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) identifies nearly 5,000 outstanding Hispanic/Latino students each year. "

"Counselors are notified in mid-May of the students who are being considered from their high school. They are asked to verify each student’s cumulative GPA and ethnicity. In mid-September of your senior year, a formal letter of congratulations is sent to each recipient. "

We live in Baltimore, MD very few Hispanics. My daughter got a 201 and we haven't heard a peep. If that didn't qualify the scores in MD must be really high. Any ideas? I've sent an email to the NHS site. Hope give some guidance.

Counselors are notified in mid May that you are being considered. Students will be notified in mid September of senior year.

Excuse me i took the test in 2008 (as a junior), i was wondering when i would get the notice, also think that the requirement is 3.0 not 3.5. Is there any way I can check if i made it?
