national hispanic scholar cut-offs

Your counselor will be notified in mid May if you are being considered. Your counselor will provide additional information about you to the College Board (such as your GPA.) If you make it, you will be notified in mid September of senior year.

Does anyone know the cut-off score for NJ??

You might try taking a look at the links listed on this thread:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/hispanic-students/640730-national-hispanic-recognition-program.html</a></p>

I got a 186 on the PSAT Sophomore year without studying/caring much.

The cut off is 181.

I am so doing this.

^NHRP cutoffs vary by state and year.

How does one prove Hispanic lineage without an Hispanic surname? My son is a sophomore now with a score right at the cut-off for our state. If he scores as well his Jr. year and designates himself as Hispanic on the test form, what would happen next?

His school GC would be notified and asked to confirm that he is Hispanic and report his gpa. As long has been reporting his ethnicity to his schools as Hispanic he should have no problem. Since NHRP accepts students that are as little as one-quarter Hispanic, many will not have Hispanic surnames. In college admissions, other than Native Americans, students only self-identify their ethnicity and race.

Be sure to take a look at the Hispanic Students subforum (under Admissions). You’ll find lots of information about scholarships, diversity weekends and summer programs, as well as a great group of very helpful and supportive posters.

My daughter does not have a hispanic surname. When the school was asked to confirm her ethniticity (last May) they called her in and she explained I am from South America. That was all we had to do. It is a very small school and they know me.

Does anyone know where the cutoff scores for National Hispanic Scholars are posted for the Class of 2011?

I’m not sure they’ve been established yet. That’s why I was asking for the cutoff scores for the Class of 2010…to kind of get an idea.

Scores are never “published” like they are for NMS. There are links on this thread giving past scores of students who were NHRP from various states:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/hispanic-students/640730-national-hispanic-recognition-program.html</a></p>

Also, if you call up NHRP, they will tell you your state cut off (it might be for the class of 2010 as 2011 kids have not been notified yet).

^^^^

So, no one on CC has compiled a cumulative state by state list like is done for NMSF?

No, because people know that they got NHRP and they know their score, but they don’t know what the actual cutoff score was, other than the fact that is was lower than what they got.

Likely due to the relatively small representation of Hispanic students on CC, there has not been a great impetus to make such a compilation. Which is not to say it wouldn’t be welcome and informative.

Guess I just needed a fire lit under me . Go to post #130 on this thread for a summary of NHRP state cutoffs for the Classes of 2005-2010:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/hispanic-students/640730-national-hispanic-recognition-program-9.html</a></p>

Only a handful of states represented, but hopefully it will be helpful.

Thanks…

Anyone know the cut off in Texas for class of 2012?

If you go to the thread I gave you earlier, the next to the last post, you will see the Regional cutoffs for 2011. The 2012 cutoffs will not be out for quite a while, but will be within a point or two of 2011.
