So, I've read thru the threads, but don't see an answer to my question.

we're one of those odd homeschooling families <g>. Does anyone know if the notification letter comes directly to us, or does it still go to the school?</g>

You should probably just call the NMSC (847/866-5100) and ask how you'll find out. They may require you to wait until Wednesday 9/13, when Semifinalist names are to be released to the press, but they should tell you either way.

Yes, the letters announcing NM Semi-Finalists DID go out to the schools on Monday, August 21, 2006. The letters are sent out in batches according to the student's score. In other words, the higher scorers have their letters sent first (Monday), the next highest, and so on. I imagine the schools ought to have the letters in hand by the end of this week or early part of next week.

As far as the official cut-offs: the NMSC would not tell me, saying the information is confidential until Sept. 13. At that time, students may ask their guidance counselor. However, I believe individual schools have been known to share this information with their winners before this "official" date.

If anyone has ANY information re: cutoffs, please post it. We are interested in the Texas cutoff in particular.

Thanks for the input. I took rlvj's recommendation of calling. As long as my son coded correctly the fact he was a homeschooler, then we'll get the notification sent directly to our home.

My son scored a 215 and 216 was last years WA cutoff, so it's not likley we're going to receive a letter, but one can always hope..........

My daughter got her letter from her headmaster just minutes ago, and she made Semi-Finalist!!! We live in Texas. She scored a 217. That was the cutoff last year, so we know that the cutoff this year for Texas is 217 or lower. I'm guessing it's right on 217 - that the number stayed steady and didn't decline.

Whoohoo!! Can ya'll hear me yelling? ;-))))

That's very exciting. We are hoping TN didn't change (much). My D scored a 217...and last year's cutoff was 216.
If anyone hears anything, please let us know. Thanks so much...(my 1st post!)

As long as his school recommends him, his grades are good, he has SAT scores that roughly validate his PSAT score, he's a US citizen (or on his way to becoming one), and he fills out the forms right, he should be OK. 95% of NMSFs make it to NMF.

My sister from Missouri just called - her son received his NMSF letter from his principal today (his PSAT 222). The principal from my nephew's school said that the letter from NMC said Missouri's cutoff was 214. FYI, his SAT score (one and only try) - 2390 (E 12)!!! What a kid!!

Now anxiously awaiting news regarding Kansas. My daughter (PSAT 230) just got home from sport practice and did not receive anything today!?!?!

Do we have any rumors on Ohio? I was in the counseling office and principal's office yesterday and was told from both the counselors and the principal himself that we have yet to receive any National Merit Informations which is weird as I thuoght scores were suppossed to be in principals' hands by Monday 21.
