NMSQT considers the cutoff information confidential and, I believe, copyrighted. I recall one site that posted the summary of the cutoffs by state last year was contacted by NMSQT and told to pull the information off the web. Old threads often have summaries of the previous cutoffs, including 2006.

Semifinalist names for the 2007 program are released to the media on Sept. 13th, but cutoffs will not. Commended students should already know who they are if they were not called down for semifinalist's information. Commended students will officially be notified anytime after Sept. 18th.

By sharing scores and information, this is the best way that we can put a summary together without NMSQT saying that we are in violation of anything.

You made my weekend with your summaries and I appreciate your efforts more than you can ever know!
I am from Texas and haven't heard from my son's school yet, maybe today.

At a meeting at my D's high school on Aug. 24, 2006....our principal remarked to all parents that she'd just received word that our school had 4 NMSFs.
Afterwards, I privately asked if my D had made NM Semifinalist (with a 217 selection index).
She said "yes". We don't have the letter in hand, but that's what the principal said.
So...I don't know the minimum cutoff, but if a TN student has a 217 or higher, they're in.
Thanks for all the information that everyone has been sharing.

My sons' school mystifies me. They posted a sign outside the school last week "Congratulations to our NM Semifinalists", but they didn't notify the winners. It's like saying "congratulations to those who will not be named".

Just called our school's principal's office to see if they'd received anything from National Merit in the mail. His secretary said no; my D's index is 218, two points above 216 last year for Illinois, so our hopes are up. However, our high school is in major upper administration transition right now (our supt. resigned last week, and we have no business manager - superintendent was doing that, too), so I'm afraid this might get lost in the shuffle.

So I went a step further and called my daughter's counselor. She said the principal himself had just dropped off a packet for my daugher in her office (she said perhaps he took care of it personally so his secretary never saw it), and she has a pass out for my daughter to come see her. So it looks like she's a semi-finalists in Illinois with a 218!

Sent my son an email that some states had already received letters. He went to his counselor and she said they do know but will not divulge the information until Sr. Recognition Ceremony on September 8th.

We are from Kansas - my daughter got a 230 on the PSAT so she should qualify for NMSF, but she still hasn't heard anything from her principal! As I stated in an earlier post, her cousin in Missouri heard he had qualified from his principal last week!
