National Merit Cutoffs

Just wondering. Does anyone have any estimates/knowledge of what the national merit cutoffs are for the PSAT? I understand there are different levels: Finalist, semifinalist, etc.

btw, I got a 222 on my PSAT.

To be a commended scholar the cutoff was about 203 last year so you'll get that easy
and the semifinalist depends on where you live
almost all states are below 222 though so as long as you dont live somewhere like md or dc who's cutoffs are like 223 then you should get semi too
for finalist you hafta apply after you become a semifinalist in october/novemberish
congrats on the great score though!

oh sweet so after you make semifinalist, your score doesnt determine how you do in the finalist round?

anyone know the California cutoff in previous years?

I was just curious by the way if I am in the 99th percentile in a state, I got a 213, and the the cutoff was 212 last year, this is ky, do you guys think I'll get the national merit

directorscut- yeah your score supposedly doesn't matter at all for the finalist round, you just hafta write an essay, send them your grades and SAT scores and youre good (pretty much no one gets rejected from finalist, only if you have like really bad SAT scores or grades or just forget to send it in)
and i dont know the CA cutoff but there are plenty of threads about this topic where you can find it

inthemoney- i don't think it has anything to do with percentile, because percentile is a national thing not a state thing. i have friends who are way in the 99th percentile with 220s who didnt make it just cuz md has such a high cutoff. i mean with the 99th and your score youre definitely a commended scholar but theres really no way to tell by how much ky's cutoff score will rise, but most states dont go up by more than 1 or 2 unless if they were really low to begin with

use the search tool once in a while people :)

Oh didnt notice they had that back up :)
