Hey, to all Natl. Merit SemiFinalists, do you guys know when we find out if we made finalist status or not?
I have a 225, do you think that will make it?
Also, does anyone know how about how high it has to be to actually get a grant?

I believe we get a response in February.

after u are semi, PSAT scores don't matter anymore...they then focus on stuff like GPA and SAT scores. 225 is excellent! I got a 224 this year and am worried that it's not enough for MA semi standing this year.

in 2001 221 was the cut off, I only got a 213 =( my math scored dropped big time, buy my Writing Skills rose 22 points from sophomore year! So although I'm probably no semi-finalist it gives me hope for the new SAT's!!!

That sucks for y'all. In Mississippi last year the cutoff was only 203.

Yeah, I don't think you find out whether you're a Finalist or not until February or March of your senior year.

I got 212 in California, and last year the cutoff was 216 or 217, so I'm kind of disappointed that I was so close. Who knows, though... maybe the cutoff will go down (yeah, right :p).

You can pretty much predict - and "know", then, to a certain extent - whether or not you've made semifinalist.

221 has been the cutoff in NJ for a while. My principal congratulated me already for getting higher than that, but I haven't recieved my score yet so I hope he's right ...

In September of senior year, you'll find out if you've made semifinalist or just commended. Semifinalists who make finalist (practically all of them, really) are told in February. Finalists who get awards are notified sometime from March to June.

I already know I'm a semi finalist (I'm a senior), but I dont know what the cutoff was in New York for my year. There is no cut off for Finalist though right? Is it more based on the essays, grades, SATs, etc or what? Does anyone know?
Also thanks you guys for the help so far... and thanks zxchen06 for the compliment! Good luck! I hope you make semifinalist etc!

Paprika, ask your principal or GC what the cutoff is for this year. You're correct on making finalist.

Cutoff for NY for current seniors was 218
The list of cutoffs was posted in the old CC:

206 :) at least i'll be commended

I'm in california and got a 202. Will I be commended?

I just wanted to confirm what zxchen said. After you become a semifinalist your psat scores don't matter anymore and it becomes just about your application, gpa and other scores. I think finalists are announced in april.

Does anyone know what the cutoff for NY is for THIS year? One of my students got a 217, so I assume he's on the bubble. I'd just like to know if he definitely made semi-finalist.

I also got a 217 in NY, man one more point wouldve doen it

For this year's seniors the cut-off is 218. (Look at post 39 in the long PSAT thread.

I believe someone in the official PSAT thread said that you don't find out if you're a semi-finalist until sept. next school year?

does a 206 give me anychance at semi... my sister got a 201 and had semi i don't know how in 2002 for nj, when the 'cutoff was 212'

cujoe do u live in nj? i don't think 206 will make it in nj.
