@FrozenMaineMom that’s what surprised us too! it didn’t seem as big as it is. My daughter really loves the honors college. Very small classes and they really take care of you #ChargeOn
Getting a letter from NMSC today seeing it in informed delivery. Son is waiting to hear if he won a corporate scholarship. He is not a semi finalist or finalist. Anyone know how corporate awards are notified. So they do rejections first or could this be award? Thanks
I don’t think NMSC sends letters if you didn’t win a scholarship, so I would say it should be good news, @melb004! Make sure to come back and update after he opens it.
Yep, that’s what is was! Scholarship letter for corporate sponsor. It’s a great day. Thank you!
What is this ‘informed delivery’ re letter arriving? Does USPS or NMSC send an email to the student’s email when/if they send a letter? S never got a delivery notice
@liska21 The US Postal Service has a service called Informed Delivery that you sign up for on its website. Each day (mostly morning), they will email you a scan of the front of the envelopes that are arriving in that day’s mail. It isn’t completely comprehensive as there are often pieces of mail (oversize, not First Class) not included in my Informed Delivery email, but it is pretty nice to know what is coming.
I am from Maryland and my son received a letter that he received one time $2500 National Merit scholarship from mary E Beyerle family trust (Corporate sponsor category). So corporate sponsored awards have started coming out…
We are in the Pittsburgh area and our daughter received a letter today notifying her she won a $1K/year scholarship sponsored by Clemson University. So, I guess college sponsored ones are coming out now, too.
I saw some maryland announcements here https://www.mymcmedia.org/fifteen-mcps-students-awarded-corporate-sponsored-national-merit-scholarships/
Received the college-sponsored scholarship for our daughter from USC. That was a surprise add-on. Grateful!
Congratulations to all the scholarship winners on your fantastic accomplishment! My D is a finalist but appears not to have won a scholarship, since we haven’t been informed otherwise. Her college does not award NMS and there’s no chance for a corporate one either. It’s frustrating to find out only by omission. Anyway, if anyone comes across a list of Ohio scholars, could you please share the link? Thanks!
Informed delivery shows a letter from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation this morning. We are in Michigan and hope it’s good news.
@endora75 Us too. What do you think is in that letter?
Do these letters just confirm the student’s college NMF scholarship? We already know that Bowdoin will give him $2k for freshman year and $1k each year after that. Will this letter just be a confirmation of that? Can’t wait to see it. If it’s some other scholarship, I hope Bowdoin won’t take away their NMF scholarship.
@homerdog: We’re not sure. I assumed all of the scholarship notifications were already sent. I’ll post later what the contents of the letter are.
@endora75 thanks I will too. I thought I read somewhere that kids can only get one kind of NMF scholarship so, if they win the one time $2500 one from NM Corp or another corporate one, then they cannot take advantage of the college-based one offered by their school. Does that sound familiar to anyone? Trying to read through the NM website now but haven’t found the info yet.
@homerdog It is likely the college’s scholarship offer through NMSC. Your son will have to accept it through his NM portal by a certain date.
@Reebtoor ah thanks. I didn’t know that scholarship had much to do with NMSC. I just thought Bowdoin would recognize he is a NMF and we would see the scholarship on his tuition bill when we get it. I didn’t know he would receive anything from NMSC. It’s not really a big deal. All NMF kids get it at Bowdoin and I think that was the case at all of the schools he applied to - if you were accepted and enrolled and NMF, then you get the scholarship. It’s not a competition between the NMF at the school since they give that money to all of them.
@Reebtoor So, if a student wins one of the $2500 NMSC scholarships but their college offers a bigger scholarship, what happens? Do they turn down the one time $2500 award? Or do you think they only consider kids whose colleges do not offer a scholarship for NMFs? Same with corporate awards…do they only consider the kids who won’t get an award from their college? I’m not understanding the “only get one scholarship” thing for being a NMF. How do all of these groups who offer scholarships make sure each student only gets one?
@homerdog Although my D was awarded the State Farm Corporate scholarship, it was NMSC that decided the winners.
